Skip it!. I honestly can’t say anything good except…the food was hot (temperature hot). Hmmm, where do I begin? Well, having just moved to Valrico from Jersey a few months ago, I am on the hunt for a decent pizza place that can serve up NY style pizza. This was the 3rd place I’ve tried and the absolute worst pizza, baked ziti, and chicken parm sub I’ve ever had in my life! Although the pizza slices were huge, it was less than tolerable to consume! The chicken parm sub tasted like I had gone to a chinese buffet and ate it because I’m allergic to MSG and had no other choice. But, the topper of the evening of disappointments was the baked ziti! How can anyone screw up baked ziti?! It was more like a ziti-stew with pink sauce. It was steaming hot (which is a great thing when it comes to dinners), but I think spackle/drywall has a better taste. This baked ziti was so tasteless, however after eating fork-fulls to give it half a chance, I began to get an after-taste of spices that I can’t even describe. The finale of the meal came when I opened the wrapped foil to see what was inside. It was bread folded in half. When I unfolded it, it looked like my dog has done his business on the bread! But, me always trying to find the silver lining of everything thought…ok, that was nice that they included garlic bread. But, no big shocker here…it was absolutely tasteless. I’ve never taken the time to write any food review, but I felt compelled the warn the public about my horrible experience. Don’t waste your hard-earned money (like I did) on this place! They also don’t deliver and use a 3rd party vendor for delivery services that take over 1 1/2 hours (which is why I chose pick-up; and therefore am even angrier that I wasted my gas to bring the disappointment home). I will continue my search for better, basic Italian food. Although I’m living in a different area, making decent pizza shouldn’t be (and isn’t) rocket science!
Forgot my wings and my refund!. This review is based solely on the customer service provided by the owner Joel …In early March my family was celebrating my sons 3rd birthday and to keep it simple we ordered pizza and wings from Joels. My husband picked up the food and when he got home, we noticed they forgot all of the wings we ordered (20). I called that evening and the girl on the phone told me she was sorry and I would be credited back the amount on my card.I waited two weeks and didnt see the credit on my card, so I called Joels back and was told I would have to speak with Joel about the issue and that he wasnt in. A few days later Joel finally got around to calling me and was 1) not apologetic at all about the issue and 2) told me I had to come in and manually swipe my card in order to be issued a refund (this is inconvenient, but I agree to come in ). The day I was supposed to go in, my son got sick at school and I had to pick him up and couldnt make it to Joels. I called to speak with Joel about arranging another time, but he was gone. I have since left no less than four messages for Joel and he has failed to call me back. Two of the messages were left with a young girl in the evening and every time I spoke with her, she had an attitude. The girls I spoke with on other occasions were very nice.I dont know if his staff isnt giving him the messages (unlikely) or if Joel just doesnt care about his customers. Either way, we will never use Joels again. I support local businesses, but not when theyre ran the way Joel runs his shop. This matter could have been cleared up quickly with a simple apology and quick refund.
Pizza was great! I went a few times and the quality of the pizza was great! I will be back!
Dont try calling. I tried to call and place an order for pick up. i called for over 2 hours and the lines were busy the entire time! ended up ordering someplace else!
Excellent Pizza. Fresh ingredients. Not very greasy at all. After being disappointed by pizza joints in the area and being from out of town myself and not being too familiar with my surroundings, I bumped into Joel’s. The staff were very friendly, took the time to discuss topping options (I’m picky) and closely monitored the cooking process to make sure it came out exactly as I liked it. I will definitely be going back.
Great local pizza place. My family and I have been going to Joel’s at least once a week for over a year. I have two small children and Joel’s is their favorite place to eat out. My children can be quite difficult, and the servers are very patient and friendly, and go out of their way to provide a welcoming atmosphere. The pizza is excellent, the best NY style pizza I have had outside of NY. I occasionally order the meatball sub, which is great. My wife always gets the eggplant parmesan – very fresh, huge portion, always plenty for leftovers.Joel’s Pizza Palace is probably the best independent restaurant in the Brandon area.
