Worth the trip if you like great fried seafood including catfish and frogs legs.
Ripoff Joint!. Our first trip to Lone Cabbage Fish Camp on the St. Johns river and SR520 just west of Cocoa, FL. The atmosphere was reminiscent of a Louisiana Bayou fish camp. It was on a Wednesday at 3:00 pm, and there were a few other guests inside eating, but mostly 2 or 3 tour busses that were there for the Air Boat rides. Now the bad part of this story we ordered the daily special Fried Catfish Basket for $5.99 which came with French fries. Even though the fish was deep fried and came as nuggets instead of a filet, they still had a nice crunch and taste to them. So during our meal, I decided to order some more catfish and gator (meat only) to take home. These were supposed to be a half-pound (8 oz.) of each order. In my world, a pound is still 16 oz., right? They felt a little light for one pound of meat, so when I got home I pulled out my kitchen scale and weighed them 3.5 oz. EACH! And, this was with them still in the Styrofoam container they came in. I called them to find out if I got the half-pound or a regular order, and was told I got the half-pound BUT, this is before cooking weight. WHAT??? That would be like buying a 100 count of garbage bags and only getting 40 in the box. So, gator and catfish loses 60% of weight when cooked? Give me a break. Lets all say it together – TOURIST TRAP. What they didn’t realize was we are locals, not tourists and for what they did to us will never happen again, and I hope all of Brevard county and the surrounding areas will heed this as a warning. STAY AWAY from this place, unless you dont mind getting ripped off, and wasting your hard earned cash. We made two trips here, our First and Last. As for us, they will never see us again.
Genuine Florida. I always get the catfish. Friendly people. Don’t miss.
So who goes to a fish camp and doesn’t expect fried food? We came in on a Rainy Friday night and three of us ordered the gator-froglegs-catfish combo fried. Everything was wonderful and we had two experienced severs so all in all it was a great evening. We’ll definitely be back.
Rude people. Some of the food is okay if you like fried EVERYTHING. They have a fake gator outside that you can take pictures on, my friends sister & her kids were taking pictures on it after we got done eating (they came from out of town) and some crazy guy came outside and started lecturing her on how to watch her kids and not to touch the trailer that it was on, even though they weren’t touching anything. It was so innapropriate my friends sister cried and we will never go back.
It’s a fish camp. Everything is fried. They’d fry the picnic tables if they could. However, the setting is old Florida fish camp. Take an airboat ride. Have some gator tail and enjoy the live country music on the weekends.
Good food, great view, but the waitress with the elbow brace was a B. I went with my baseball team and all she did was complain and moan that she was there… Other than her it was great.
