Sign me disappointed. I was traveling to the area on business and I discovered this place through Yelp.com, and I decided to check it out based on the fact that it had a 4 12 star rating. I did not however read any reviews prior to arrival as is customary for me in order to not have any bias for my review process.Finding it was easy through my GPS app Waze. The location is clearly marked with a large sign out front. Although this place is situated directly on the docks it has a very clean look to it. When you walk up there is a menu board stating that you should wait to be seated. If youre dining solo like me there were three high top tables that face the water suitable for dining alone without feeling uncomfortable. Additionally the building seems to house a few tables and they have a large tent like canopy over several groups of tables also situated on the dock. There is a single restroom that is unisex but I found it to be quite clean.Although there did not appear to be any TVs outside theres plenty of things going on it dockside for you to pay attention to, flocks of brown pelicans and interesting ships to name a few. When I was there I was lucky enough to see a large old-fashioned schooner that had docked directly in front of the restaurant. The crew provided ample entertainment while I dined. Unfortunately, I completely forgot to check for a wireless signal.Starting off I will tell you that youll be pleasantly surprised at the prices for a glass of wine and a bottle of beer are only four dollars and three dollars respectively. Unfortunately, this is where most of the party ends. For dinner I ordered the grouper for $21.99. I asked about the ways in which the grouper would be cooked and I was quite surprised to find that they only bake the fish they dont grill it or fry it which seems strange to me as a native of Florida. Additionally all of the fish dinners are described as cooked and one of several ways Unagi, Caribbean, bread crumbs, blackening seasoning, A La spicy Bill ($1), salsa Fresca ($1), garlic salt and pepper, or plain. Since unagi actually means eel and Japanese I didnt even ask about that flavoring. I did, however, ask about the Caribbean flavor which was described to me as Caribbean spices that were fruity and a little bit sweet. I said not too sweet correct and she said no and based on that I ended up ordering it. It is described as being served with fresh steamed veggies, smashed potatoes, garlic bread, and your choice of soup, salad, or slaw. I asked about the soup and was told it was a spicy crab soup. I decided to give that a try as well.It didnt take very long, about two or three sips of beer for my server to bring out my soup. It was served in a small Styrofoam black bowl situated on a small black Styrofoam plate which housed two packages of saltine crackers. It was accompanied by a white plastic soup spoon. I found this a little odd because I was presented with a fork and butter knife rolled up in a white paper napkin when I was brought my beer. I gave it is smell first and it did not have a fishy smell to which I was pleased. I started up a bit and tried my first bite and was pleasantly surprised as it contained several large pieces of real crab, and small bits of carrot and onions. It was actually quite tasty and by the third spoonful I quickly realized that it was indeed spicy. This was not a bad thing mind you, as I was warned of the fact previous to ordering it, but it did nevertheless take me by surprise. When my server checked on me, I went ahead and asked for a few slices of tomato to help me cool down a bit. She apologetically brought me out two or three slices of tomato immediately, which helped and she did offer to replace it as well but I decided because of the good flavor I would plow through it. Shortly after I finish my soup my entre was served. It turned out that the Caribbean topping had an incredibly sweet mango taste to it. The fish itself was so fresh however, that I believe that theres truly no real reason to put anything on top of it, to enjoy it. I am not as lenient however on the portion size. My fish seemed to be about a five, possibly, maybe a 6 ounce piece at best. This is about the size that I usually get on a grouper sandwich at most locations. I honestly expected it to be around an 8 ounce piece or larger. The vegetables consisted of broccoli, quite a few carrots, a few slices of red bell pepper and some red onion and they were all fresh. The smashed potatoes were unfortunately also a disappointment. Theyre actually served in a separate small bowl situated on, your black Styrofoam plate. My first batch was extremely slimy from an overuse of butter perhaps? I was brought a fresh bowl that was better than the first and with some salt-and-pepper edible but clearly nothing to brag about. As for the garlic bread mine seem like the end of a loaf of French bread with a giant air hole carved in the middle of the piece which was maybe 2 inches around. It was tasty but far too small and pathetic. All desserts are four dollars, of which they have three listed, a fudge chocolate cake, key lime pie and homemade ice cream. I opted for the chocolate cake which I felt would pair best with the remainder of my beer. When it arrived it looked visually appealing even though it was served with yet again a white plastic spoon. The first bite however really took me aback. It had the kind of taste you have on a cake that is either been sitting around for forever in your kitchen, or one thats been in the refrigerator and not covered. I didnt eat another bite and my server kindly removed it from my bill. Additionally, she went out of her way to provide me with an additional 10% discount for the issues that I had. I felt like that was a really kind gesture and on par with the rest of the service I received from her that evening.Overall, Im going to present this location with a three-star or average rating however its truly more of a C- to a D or a two star establishment. The only reason it actually gets the extra star keeping them average, is for the level of service, the great price on their alcoholic beverages, and the freshness of their fish. Most of the negativity that I have regarding rating them higher is surrounding the price point. They have a couple of big negatives working against that price point namely, the use of disposable dishes and the portion size of the fish. Personally, I consider the Red Lobster chain to be an average seafood restaurant in Florida and for $5 more on my entre at that establishment I can have a lobster tail, snow crab legs, garlic shrimp scampi and a shrimp skewer all served on a nice china plate with real silverware and endless cheddar biscuits!
Great casual outdoor dining. Great prices on fresh seafood. Oysters were enormous! My husband had lobster and I had stone crab claws. Both were excellent. If I lived here I would eat here often.
Food is fresh but very bland.
Disappointing. Under seaso…. Disappointing. Under seasoned fish, crab cakes full of shells, small portions. At least we got a nice view of the cement plant. At least the beer was cold.
Overpriced for the quality and atmosphere. The chairs an tables are made out of PVC pipe. Food was serve on styrofoam plates. Food was ok, but not for the price. Rusty’s, next door is better, both food quality and atmosphere.
Vacation from Okla. Stayed at the Cape Canaveral Resort just around the corner from The Cove- we ate each evening at a different restaurant and Seafood Atlantic was one of our favorites- wife had swordfish and I had a local fish- Triple Fin- both were reasonable lay priced and were greatWe also did a half pound of the Canaveral Shrimp- the white shrimp and they were fabulous- if anything a pound of them would be a super dinner.Much more casual than a couple of the other places we tried- but a dinner we enjoyed!
Gluten-free disaster. We went yesterday for dinner and I ordered the swordfish dinner. I informed the waitress that I needed gluten free and she wrote down NO BREAD on the kitchen slip. After nearly a half hour, our dinners came and mine had the bread on top, so it had to go back. My husband finished his crab cakes, which he said were okay, but not great. (Also, he said everything was only lukewarm.) After half an hour, my dinner still hadn’t come, so we left and I NEVER GOT DINNER!!! The manger said our dinner was free, but that didn’t make up for such a horrible experience.
