Not my cup of tea. Ola! Well let me start this off by saying this. I come to realize I am not a fan of Cuban cuisine . I love Cuban coffee and the roasted pig. It stops for me there.I have been here twice. Both times the people and service are outstanding. Now to the food. The quality is excellent/ BUT the pastries are not very sweet and there is TOO much guava offered.Cuban sandwiches are just ham and cheese with a slice of pork. The bread though crunchy on outside and fluffy inside it is verrrrrrrrrry plain like wonder bread.I was adventurous and tried the Spanish omelet. It was terrible. It was like eating a pancake style omelet incorporated with ham & what I think was a chorizo sausage . TOO well done and arid to my taste buds. So I really did not enjoy my meal. Oh yes I did not ask for hot sauce. I tried what was on the table. Peso Pete I think a Louisianan style sauce. Tasted like a tobasco wayyyy too much vinegar. Oh yes they gave me these potato stixs. The kind that are in the can at the supermarket . THAT JUST PLAIN SUCKS .My bill came under 10 bucks so not too bad. And like I said great service.
Good food, very slow service.
Outstanding food!. My husband and I enjoyed a delicious meal at Azucar, starting with the melt in your mouth Cuban bread. The Pollo ala Plancha was tender, grilled and seasoned perfectly with white rice and black beans which were better than his Cuban grandma made. My husband ordered the Varadero Special which was a chicken breast dippedin a cocnut batter and covered with ham and cheese….to die for! Last but not least, we had flan (the best we have ever tried). You are missing out if you have not tried Azucar.
The breakfast special was good for the price advertised but I was not charged that price. We asked for cream and sugar for the coffee and I was charged an extra $3.50 each that’s more than the breakfast was supposed to be with coffee included. I questioned it the waitress told me sweet coffee is extra I’m not going to argue about $7 but I’m also not going back.
We love Azucar Restaurant & Bakery. We love their food, prices, service and ambiance. The Cuban coffee has to be the best bargain in SW Florida – better than any coffee anywhere, especially for the price. I’m almost afraid to write this review in fear they will become too busy. We always order the Cuban Sunrise breakfast for $4.95. Three eggs, hash browns, bacon or ham, Cuban Coffee and Cuban bread toast with guava jelly on the side. Don’t forget to ask for the guava jelly – it’s the best ever. One night we visited Azucar for dinner and ordered the Paella. Wow. It takes about 45 minutes to prepare, so we called it in early. $30 for two people, but if you like Paella, you won’t be disappointed here either.
Wonderful Breakfast. Readin all of the reviews here, we tried Azucar for breakfast now 2 times and are completely satisfied. We can only highly recommend this place for its food, pricing and the very good coffee (even for Europeans the Cuban coffee is great !). Also tried the pastries and they can only be described with one word: Yummy !
Delicious food, superb service, great value
