I’m surprised this place is still in business. The wait staff acts like they’re doing you a favor. They are rude and nasty. The bathrooms are filthy so you can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. The interior is decorated like you’re down on mulberry street in nyc. Well your not. As a matter of fact it’s tacky. My recommendation is if you’re in the mood for Italian, Carrabbas is across the street.
Worse service ever, mangement even worse. This was my second visit to Donato’s. While we loved the New York subway style of the restaurant, the wait staff left something to be desired. The waitress came and took drink orders and while she was there, we asked for a children’s menu. Even before we ordered, she automatically assumed that my daughter was going to order from the children’s menu, so she brought my daughters drink in a children’s cup. Wrong move. Just because we asked for a children’s menu, it didn’t mean she was going to order from it. A server should never assume anything when waiting on customers. We could have asked for the children’s menu for a number of reasons. When she came back to take our orders, the kids ordered their meals and I ordered two appetizers as my meal. I told the server that the app’s were going to be my dinner and did not want to order an entree. Again, she assumed that since I ordered app’s, that I wanted them before my children’s dinners came out. When i asked her about the kids dinners, she got nasty with me and told me that everything was timed and since I ordered app’s, the dinners would be out soon. While waiting for the kids meals, I had stopped eating because I didn’t want to eat while my kids were waiting. One of the app’s I ordered was calamari and it had gotten cold while waiting for the other food. I asked for the manager when the server got nasty with me. The server basically stuck her hand over the plate of calamari and said these are app’s, everything is timed, the dinners will be out shortly. Well, things went from bad to worse. The manager, Rachel, told me that I should have told the server that my app’s were going to be my dinner, which I did when i placed the order and didn’t order an entree. She told me it was my fault because I didn’t tell the server. I had also told her to take away the calamari because it was cold and that I wasn’t going to pay for the cold app. My mistake for telling her I wasn’t going to pay for it. There I was wrong. The manager told me that yes I was going to pay for it and that I am not going to tell her what I am paying for and what I am not paying for. I could not believe that a manager would tell a customer that the customer is wrong and would do nothing to rectify the situation. She absolutely refused to do anything to appease me or to make me a happy customer. While we liked almost everything we ate or tasted, in my case, we will never go back to this restaurant.
Average to Slightly Above Average. Out on a slow Monday night and stumbled across Donato’s Italian.Salad was nothing special, and the chicken soup was only average.The homemade pastas were tasty, and the Chicken Marsala portion was decent sized. Unfortunately the fish portion for the Pesce Florentire was a very small, although nicely flavored.Prices were fair, there was plenty of genuinely friendly staff, decent service.Might return, if I’m back in the area.
Just OK. Was OK…I will not return though. Much better places out there with better prices and food. Service was not that great also.
Donato’s is Delicious!!. We go every week, sometimes twice. The food is fantastic, the service is fantastic. I have NEVER had bad food or bad service. Enjoy one of SW Florida’s greatest Italian Places…See you there!!
Not good any more. Portions used to be large, always bringing some home Now small portion.Salads fall off the tiny square plate.June 12 2014 ordered the Seafood Combo, Marinara style, OMG Pepper flakes HOT HOT What a waste of $19.00 2 shrimp 3 mussels 3 clams and 4 calamari rings. I left the place hungry. Donato is not a good place to go any more. Marinara means Peppery Hot at Donatos
