Good duck. Chop Stix is a pretty good little bistro that we’ve been to a few times. The service is a little lacking but the prices are fair.I usually get the duck, honey garlic chicken or one of the soups. Atmosphere is casual and non-pretentious.If this review was star-based I’d give Chop Stix 3.5 out of 5.

Worst service in town. Bland, overpriced food. How are they still in business?

Uggg. We’re staying at the Hilton from out of town and were looking for delivery- my husband had a craving for General Tso’s chicken. Well I’ve eaten chinese food at numerous tiny- whole in the wall type places before and it was good. His General Tso’s was *gross* by his words and tasted just like soy sauce. I got fried rice with chicken… it had green beans in it? No flavor, huggeee chunks of not fully cooked eggs in it, and chicken that was from a can or something. Really just barreelly edible and I’m not a picky person. I also got egg drop soup, something I’ve eaten at 50 difference places… it was WHITE and had green onions in it and tasted like a chemical. The delivery guy was nice, the guy that called to ask about our order after I ordered online was nice and the delivery was really quick. So, good service just really bad food! Sorry Chop Stix! BTW, I doublechecked myself and I did order from this one, not the one on 13th.

First of all there are 2 chopstix in Gainesville one on 43rd and one on 13th the one on 13th has terrible service and lousy food, however the one on 43rd is great. Great food, service and location. So pay attention to which one you are writing a review for. The one on the lake is on 13th.

Good and Bad. First the Good: The setting is marvelous, situated on a lakeside with a spectacular view, particularly at sunset. A nice dining patio with shade umbrellas allows you to be part of the view or the wall of picture windows lets you enjoy it from inside. The decor is sharp and clean. The room does echo and so it can be noisy, but oh, that view…The servers, once you get their attention, are friendly and pretty good. But you’ll probably have to flag them down. It’s a busy place. The menu is huge (probably too big for its own good) and the prices are extremely good (possibly too good). Now the Bad: The food is just not very good. They do put a lot on the plates and the prices are great. Maybe that’s all they feel they need to bring in a young crowd for whom price and quantity are the only consideration. But those who have developed a palate and know what well-prepared food made from quality ingredients is like will probably be disappointed, despite the glowing descriptions and incredible variety of the menu.It may be because the menu offers so many things that the kitchen is not able to concentrate on doing any one thing particularly well. I started with the Shrimp & Veggie Tempura for $6.95. They put on 4 nice large shrimp, but it was not tempura batter — it was thick corn meal deep-fried chicken batter! Along with the two slices of zuccini there were two chunks of raw carrot — 2 inches long and the size of my thumb around! You don’t tempura carrots unless they are sliced very thin. This was my first clue that maybe the kitchen didn’t know how to really do Asian. Then the ‘Deluxe Sashimi Plate’ for $16.95 arrived and it had only 4 kinds of fish on it: A pile of Tuna, a pile of Salmon, a few slices of Flounder and a tiny dollop of Spicy Tuna. That was the whole enchilada: The 4 most common types of sushi and the cheapest — nothing special. No roe. No eel. Not even any Yellowtail or Shrimp. But it really didn’t matter because the only difference between each type of fish was the color. I mean, they had no taste at all… not even a vague, general ‘fish flavor’. This stuff was water-logged, squishy and bland. It had been frozen and thawed over and over again until it wasn’t really fish anymore. And this was the ‘deluxe’ plate?I suppose they take this same old, tasteless fish, wrap it in a roll with a bunch of other ingredients, top it with spicy mayo and similar distractions and some people don’t notice the poor quality of the fish. That’s part of the problem with the current fashionable emphasis on exotic sushi rolls — all the specialty roll tricks let too many restaurants get by with serving less than true ‘sushi grade’ fish these days. The rice was not sushi rice, just plain rice and it was dry and tough. I assume this is the same rice they use in all the other dishes, including their extensive line of Thai offerings. The miso soup was the worst I’ve ever had.I didn’t try the Thai dishes. Perhaps they are ‘better’ because they can disguise the low quality of the ingredients and poor preparation with all those spicy sauces? But I did hear the woman at the table next to me mention that her green curry was the worst she’d ever had.I guess there *might* be some good options on the menu — if you wanted to experiment — and at these prices that could be kind of an adventure. But I suggest they trim half the items off the menu and concentrate on doing well on what’s left. And maybe they better just forget about the sushi. There are so many other places in the area like Miya or Ichiban that at least have some idea of what sushi is supposed to be.But, hey, you could still go for the view and have drinks…

Great menu. One of my favorite Asian restaurants. You’ve gotta try the General Tso’s Eggplant. To die for. They have a fabulous vegetarian menu. I’ve eaten there many times and have never been disappointed. The portions are very generous on the entrees. The waiter (seems like I get the same guy every time!) was pretty good. The sushi is not the best in town, but it is still pretty good. They have a nice sushi menu. The service is prompt and the atmosphere is nice. Drinks are pretty good, too. Great restaurant overall.
