So tonight my roommates and I decided to go to Leonardo’s. I have lived in Gainesville for almost 4 years now, going to Leonardo’s every so often and never having a problem until today! We were standing at the counter ready to order, and I told the cashier that I had a few questions about the calzones, as they are slightly different everywhere you go. I asked her about the extra $1 toppings inside the calzones, and decided to order a cheese calzone with sausage. I then asked her if they came with rolls, she said, yes, they come with 2 rolls. Both roommates had heard this as well. I ended up ordering that and paying for it. I waited 15 minutes for the calzone (that’s how long she said it would take), and they bring it out without the rolls. I came up to the counter to ask about the rolls, thinking they had simply forgotten them. Instead, the same cashier said that the calzones didn’t come with rolls and that she would never say they did. One of the reasons I ordered a calzone was to get the rolls. I politely asked to speak to a manager about this, as this was clear to be a miscommunication on their part, not mine. The manager came over and said that he absolutely cannot mediate the miscommunication, by giving me 2 dinner rolls. He completely insisted that the meal did not come with the rolls, so he was not able to provide them for me, for free, even though that it was clear there was a misunderstanding. Leonardo’s is a very well established pizza place in Gainesville, and I am sure that 2 dinner rolls will not put them out of business! At this point the manager was insisting so much that he was not going to give me the 2 free dinner rolls, that he was being rude about it! Never in my life have I experienced such a customer service faux pas!!! The purpose of my conversation with him, was not to con him out of two free dinner rolls, it was just to make a point about how a portion of the meal was promised and never delivered. Is it possible that they have so many clients that they don’t care anymore about the individual and how that could’ve affected them? This kind of service will surely catch up to Leonardo’s, as there are many other pizza places in town, that serve just as good pizza as they do. It’s very unfortunate that this happened today, as I will never be a customer at Leonardo’s again.

No More For Me. I have been a Leonardo’s fan for over 40 years, but enough is enough. Usually I get take out because the restaurant is just wicked dirty…greasy carpet, table tops, and seats that never seem to get wiped off with anything over than an overused cleaning towel. However, on my last trip into town, I did the dine-in thing, hoping the attitudes, cleanliness, and general restaurant appearance had changed. My wife wanted a salad…the salad bar had brown lettuce and other unsightly items that needed changing. I informed the staff and eventually the manager replaced the lettuce bowl with fresh salad, but the other unsavory items were left in place. She did thank us for bringing the situation to her attention. We ordered pizza by the slice, but it was not as good as I remember…for some reason it was not very warm and appeared to have been under the warming lamp instead placed in the oven for a minute. I was going to ask the waitress to conduct a re-warm, but my wife, having observed the staff interact with the clients, and overhearing the staff conversation behind her at the drink station, advised me to not do that out of fear of retaliation. Such a shame that the brand built back in the 70’s could have fallen so far below the standard they set. Although the service was slow, staff was not overly attentive, nor rude, but certainly lacked in customer ambiance. The overall experience was negative enough to make me have to say…no more for me…ever.

Unprofessional rude employees. I will never return to Leonardo’s again. I ordered two large greek salads to go and when I got home and opened the box the salads were EXTREMELY small. I called the restaurant and the person that answered the phone was very rude. She asked me to hold on and proceeded to laugh and talk about me to the guy that made the salad. Well guess what you just lost a customer and believe me when I say that if you continue to treat your customers this way…..you will have a for lease sign on the front door.

THIS one, not the one off 43rd. I am new to Gainesville and have been in search of the perfect pizza place. Leonardo’s isn’t the perfect pizza place, but it’s damn good. The one on University is far superior to the one off 43rd street. They have different owners. At the University street location you can buy by the slice anywhere from around $2-$5 depending on your toppings and the slices are really big. I highly recommend the spinach and tomato!

YUM!. I really didn’t crave a pizza in Florida until I tried Leonardo’s upon going to school at UF. Absolutely amazing. I’d definitely go with the mushroom (forget their name for it) and their garlic knots!

Pizza is great, that’s the worst part. It is so unfortunate that people have to put up with these employees to get some pizza (which is good and quick). Seems to be the recurring theme to the point that you would think the owner would at least make an effort to make the customer experience better by telling his employees to at least act like they don’t hate their lives as well as every customer that walks through the door. Sorry for giving you business I guess??? I get every order to go now as to minimize the time required to be in their presence.

Fun atmosphere. Nothing too special about this overly cheesy slice, but it was filling and ingredients were of decent quality. There were many specialty pies on display to appeal to the adventurous.
