I always order the same thing: shrimp, scallops, mushroom bento-box meal with soup, salad & ice cream! My friends have the ginger fish & like it! The service is always good! Great downtown location. They are usually busy! Make a reservation if on a Friday or Saturday! Ive been eating there for years. But, I dont eat anything raw, anywhere (except salad) so I cant say anything about their Sushi?
I want to like this place. I strongly prefer downtown restaurants, I loathe going to SW Gainesville. My husband and I went here tonight for a date night. We ordered the pu-erh tea with chrysanthemum, spring rolls, pork buns, chicken & shrimp pad thai, and the beef clay pot dinner. The tea was lovely. The spring rolls were pretty good, crispy and nicely spiced. The pork buns were terrible- the steamed bread was heavy and sticky, and the filling had the consistency of cat food. My husband’s pad thai was decent but too sweet, as if they had used ketchup instead of tamarind in the sauce. My beef clay pot dinner was terrible. It was some kind of insipid sauce with no color or flavor, so overly thickened with cornstarch that it was gluey. The vegetables in the sauce were raw. The beef was minimal and tasted like nothing. It was so awful I sent it back. I ordered shrimp and vegetable tempura to replace it, which was solid if unremarkable.I will say that the service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive and polite. She brought to-go boxes before we even asked for them, which I appreciated.Frankly if I want pan-Asian I’ll go to Chopstix. If I want Asian food downtown I’ll go to Faith Vietnamese or Crane Ramen, which are both excellent.
