Gainesville is a University town, so $100/person dinners are not common. I also saw a sign nearby for 99 cent chili dogs, which are closer to the local norm. There has to be one restaurant to fill that top of the heap primo steak place, and Mark’s is it. If you want better steak than this, you have to leave town.So, once you decide you’re staying, and you want great steak, this is where you go. All that said, the steak really is excellent. It’s not my best ever, but it’s everything it should be. The vegetables are very well prepared. The desserts are sporadically superb. The fish convinced me that I should stick to the steak. What was I thinking? It’s that stupid diet I’m on to compensate for my love of food. I won’t mix up my priorities like that again. Cooking fish is an expression of a delicate art. Meat people have a very hard time with that. Mark’s is excellent for steak. What other choice do you have after all?
I love Marks! To date, it’s the best filet I’ve ever had. I’ve eaten at several Ruth’s Chris’ and still think Marks is better. Love having my filet come out sizzling on a plate with real butter. Wine list is great too!
