Love This Place!!. We just moved to Gainesville a couple of weeks ago and have been here twice already. I Love the Apple Walnut Salad. Also delicious are the French Onion Soup and the 35 shrimp platter. The Chocolate Pounder Cake is Quite good – the cake itself steals the show; moist and decadent. The frosting could use a boost…tastes a bit like chocolate flavoured whipped cream with small chocolate chips in it. I prefer real frosting. Even so, I’d order it again. The Captain Jacks Nutty Brother is ridiculously, sinfully good. We ate every morsel, and we’re old folks. On another special occasion, we will do it again. And again. Wow!! We’re looking forward to going back and trying more menu items (the menu is extensive and the variety is impressive). The service has been enthusiastic and attentive each time. Plenty of TVs if you’re into sports, but if not the atmosphere is nice for regular people like myself. The beer sampler was fun. Last time we were there there were $1 Miller drafts. Haven’t seen that price in a while. Great Place!!!
Mahi Madness. Not a huge fan of sports bars, but the mahi at the Ale House is fantastically fresh and flavorful, so I’m a fan of this one! Enjoyed the Mahi Piccata on the first visit and blackened Mahi sandwich on the second, sans bread – still a fine portion for dinner (the piccata portion was huge). Side of black beans and rice was surprisingly tasty; sweet potato fries with the sandwich were meh (leaning toward soggy/cold). Fish made up for that and the somewhat bland service and beer selection. Service on the first go-round was efficient if not enthusiastic; second round was neither but eventually things got worked out. Eager to try more of the fresh seafood selections which are quite reasonably priced. Wish they had more healthy appetizer/snack options. At least all the seafood is available in healthy preps –
We had a great experience for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. So close to the interstate! Super nice waiter. Food was good! Key lime chicken salad was great. Burger was quite large. Kid’s menu had a nice selection. Would definitely stop again here during our travels through Gainesville.
Long wait. Slow service. Food was plain and greasy.
Best steak sandwich in Gainesville!
Don’t order the baby backs! They weren’t tender and tasted horrible. The service was great I told the waitress I didn’t like the ribs so she promptly brought me something else. If you want baby backs go next door to Texas roadhouse.
The service was average but the food was cold. The green beans I was served still had frost on them. The chicken was so processed it was inedible. This is a good place to get a beer and watch a game, but it’s not for food.
