Great pizza with a really cool atmosphere and the staff is extremely nice. The only little problem is it is a little pricey. Other than that I would definitally come back again.
I’m a 7th generation Floridian (unfortunately I transplanted) and when we travel to Florida, we stop here. My heart was set on eating a pie from Satchel’s today, but my 7 year old is sick to his stomach. We (5 of us) decided to eat out back so he could sit in the truck and we could keep an eye on him. Satchels has some of the best pizza, crust, and choices a pizza fanatic could ask for. Today was the most pleasant of times that we have eaten here. He had just finished getting upset because he couldn’t eat a slice of heaven. Ms. Junie (sp) found out our little guy was sick and she offered a free Cock & Bull Ginger Ale. It was one of the most delicious ginger ale’s he’s ever drank. She told us she hopes he would feel better. This just tops an out of this world experience here again at Satchel’s. This place rocks!!
Finally made a stop here after 3 and a half years in Gainesville! Glad I made it before graduation. The homemade root beer was delicious and the cheese calzone was phenomenal. (Very, very cheesy. Very few bites that were just dough. Perfection.) To be honest the pizza was great, but not necessarily any better or different than pizza you’d get elsewhere. To be fair though, I only had one slice of one type. Definitely a place I would love to try again; I want to see what their other sodas, other pizzas, and desserts are like. The atmosphere is also amazing! Just be sure to bring cash to pay.
Love Satchel’s. Love. The salads are delicious-full of apples, nuts, and a variety of greens-and too big for just one person. The pizzas are also good. The sauce has just the right amount of spice and the generous toppings are fresh. The atmosphere is totally Gainesville hippy chic. There is a VW van that you can sit in to be served. Decor is eclectic art work from local artists, which you can purchase. You can sit inside, outside, in the van, or on the enclosed porch. The Lightening Salvage Yard is a fun place located around back. It sells weird little toys I remember from my childhood. Good place to take kids.Yes, they are more expensive but cheap isn’t always what I’m looking for. Sometimes I want scrumptious and cool and fun. They only take cash and the wait to get in can be long, but so worth it.
I have visited Satchel’s a number of times as a musician and as a customer. I have so much love for this place. After being half burnt down the community of Gainesville has really embraced this fine establishment. Calling it a pizza joint does not even scrape the surface… Satchels is an experience that you must have. My favorite pizza, 4 toppings: roasted red peppers, feta, basil, ricotta- DIVINE! Oh, and the live music is top notch (https://www.facebook.com/shanonwatersmusic)
AMAZING pizza. (And I’ve worked at a few authentic Italian restaurants) The service is always great. The deep dish pizza is a little pricy, but worth the extra bucks. Don’t forget to order a soda since they’re made in house and super unique! Love this place.
Every time I’m in Gainesville I try to make a trip to Satchel’s. Their salad is Devine and the pizza is delicious. Luis the apple strudel dessert is the perfect ending to a great experience!
