Fantastic, Fantastic!!!. Best deal and food ever, ever!!!
Food was Great and well priced. Three of us ate there for a late dinner the other night. Among the 3 of us we tried the baked chicken (thighs and breasts), fried chicken wings, and an assortment of sides – corn bread, mac and cheese, greens, black eyed peas, and of course the okra, corn, and tomatoes. Everything was delicious. The baked chicken beast was full of flavor (i was surprised since this is usually a bland choice) and the sides were all we were hoping for. The wings were very good and not greasy as was feared. The portions were large so I got a second meal the next day from the leftovers and my companion who has a bigger appetite than me, was very satisfied with his portions. It was alot of food for $10 for each of us. I was surprised at how busy the place was a 9 pm at night although after eating the meal I can understand why its so busy. Lots of orders by phone for take out. We enjoyed eating on the picnic tables as it was a beautiful evening. I hear that they will be expanding the eating out area which will be a nice improvement. I am looking forward to going back there.
Run away and go somewhere that has a soul.. Ribs, oxtails, and everything else are precooked and sliced at celebrations catering which means your food is dry or soggy. I was highly disappointed.
DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!. The food is disgusting. I ordered smothered pork chops and what I got was a burnt mess. For starters there were parts of the pork chop that were still crispy, you aren’t supposed to be able to tell that a smothered pork chop was deep fried first because the breading is supposed to be cooked down long enough for it to turn into gravy. There were pieces of soggy fried flour flaking off of the pork chop, then other pieces were so burnt you couldn’t chew it. You could tell that it was scalded and could taste the scalded burnt flavor in the gravy and smell it which upsets me even more because whoever served it had to know it was burnt. The rice was the typical yellow parboiled type instant rice, so no real flavor (except for the remnants of scalded gravy that touched it). The cabbage had no flavor except for large bits of black pepper and wasn’t cut up and there were big hard chunks of it that hadn’t cooked down all the way. The cornbread was alright, sweet like jiffy mix, but so crumbly you couldn’t pick it up and eat it. The only thing that was decent was the mac and cheese, and it still was a little watery, but had a good flavor. Even the drink I got had maybe two ice cubes which instantly melted and watered down my drink. Total waste of $10. I didn’t even eat it, I’m going to give it to my dogs.
Soul Shack – Grand Opening is a Success!!. Just stopped in to try the new and improved Soul Shack for lunch and was impressed with what I got –oven baked chicken on a bed of seasoned yellow rice, greens, black-eye peas, and cornbread. Everything about this meal was delicious!!! If you are looking for a fast alternative to drive-thru burgers and fries, you are in for a real treat by stopping in here for a meal. They’ve got baked or fried chicken, fried or smothered pork chop, chicken wings, bar-b-que ribs, and even oxtail. Their sides are AWESOME too: cabbage, black eye peas, greens, field peas, mac & cheese, green beans, lima beans, candied yams, okra/corn/tomatoes, french fries… You get the picture. No dining room, but there are tables outside with umbrellas for those who are not taking their food to go. WAY to GO Soul Shack – I really enjoyed my lunch today!
