I was a bit turned off by the heavy hipster-nostalgia vibes I got when I first arrived, but it heavily made up for it by being incredibly tasty.The Top has been around for a while, but hasn’t been overhyped like some of the other Gainesville eateries. You wont find an overabundance of tacky bumper stickers advertising the place.I enjoyed how they manage the lighting and atmosphere of the place, shifting between vibes for lunch (Professional and quick), dinner (intimate and warm), and after dinner hotspot (good drinks, inviting). The staff is always professional and relaxed, it almost as if you’re stopping over to have a bite at a friend’s house and you discuss what you want over a glass of beer while sitting at the kitchen table.The food itself is excellent and filling. Good flavours in the appetizers and main course, good desert and drink selection. Every time I’ve eaten there I have never had cause to complain about the quality of the food, nor of the corresponding price. It isn’t a cheap burger joint, but the kitchen lives up to the price tag and then some.Good place for a quick professional lunch if you have business downtown, a decent place to take a dinner date, and a good place to meet up with the lads for a round or two of beer and laughs.

By far, The Top is one of Gainesville’s best restaurants. I typically sit at the bar. Brian is a great bartender. Very friendly and makes one of the best mojitos in town. Food is fresh, well-prepared, and delicious. I’m here at least twice a month and have never had a negative food experience.
