OK. So I ordered calzones from the Orange Park Florida location 3 weeks ago. They were wonderful. Last week however when I ordered the same steak, cheese, mushrooms, peppers, and onion calzones, I was told they were out of steak, and they would substitute hamburger instead. No discount? Steak for hamburger and no discount. I said fine. When they FINALLY got here over an hour later, (I was told 30 minutes) they were kinda warm, not hot, and very small compared to the ones I got a week earlier. Now I called them again tonight, and apparently, because my roommate’s wife called to complain to the manager last week about them being so tiny, and no discount for switching steak for hamburger, now there is apparently a sign on the wall now, not to deliver again to my address! I called tonight to order the calzones again, and was told about the sign. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? So apparently, if you call and complain about their food quality, they won’t deliver to your address again???? WOW! So the past 5 years of us being customers of theirs, spending thousands of dollars, and NEVER once complaining in the past when the same thing has happened, (the quality sucked or the portions were a joke) we are now not allowed to place a delivery order ever again from this address! UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Take your money and spend it elsewhere, where the quality, quantity, and service doesn’t depend on whoever is working that night. If this thing allowed me to rate them a zero, instead of a one, I would have. Because that’s what they deserve for treating someone (me) with A.L.S., and is in a wheelchair dying, this way. A 5 year customer at that!

The meals appear exactly as they do in their pics (which is very rare), the portions are great, although I could do with a little more lasagna. But who couldn’t? They delivery in a timely and courteous manner and the food is super hot! Best Italian EVER!

It is the owner who has always made it special to us and continues to until he is gone. The food can be so so and we just like him. That is the truth. The food though unless you are buying the big dinner specials just comes in mediocre. I love spaghetti but honest to goodness a jar sauce would be better than what I have been getting. Marinara just tomato type paste… YUCK. I was told that was what they put under my meat sauce— again YUCK. I tried a different pasta baked zita and it was over cooked the pasta was just mush. The spaghetti sauce is either great or so so. The customer basis seems to of dropped greatly. I would love to see a soup and salad plate on the menu. However it is not and never has been. I am noticing that the hours on this web page show Monday and Tuesday as being open. They are closed Monday and Tuesday. They have a great staff who are friendly and courteous. I am just unsure what is going on in the kitchen. What is going on with the sauces. Do you care what you put on peoples plates? Would you eat what you are giving others to eat? Perhaps a smaller menu with less ingredients going kind of close to not good. I will say what I said to begin with it is hit and miss. Either great or not. Some kind of adjustment seems to need to be made here but I am not sure what it is or why. I just know Joey Mozzarella’s is not what it used to be and for that I am sad.
I ate there last year just after I returned from Japan. I was looking for an authentic mom and pop type restaurant like back home in NY. Well this place was absolutely NOT it. Place is dirty, tables were wobbly and dirty and food was more than likely frozen. Non of it had a fresh taste and the sauce is no way made fresh. Unless you consider being the first to get it out of the can. The Owner is a nice guy, but sometimes can seem a little awkward. Would definitely recommend staying away unless there was a new chef with fresh menu and some remodeling.
My husband & I wanted something new so gave Joey’s a try. We were not disappointed! Great food, large portions, the owner came out to greet us, and the waitress was phenom! We will be going back.
THE gem of Italian food. This is the best Italian restaurant in Jacksonville hands down. Portion size is unbelievable and flavor is unparalleled. Do not miss this place. You will regret it. I regret not coming sooner.
