Prior to this review, I ate here twice. Once with my former manager for lunch and another for dinner (solo visit). Both of those visits were fine and I enjoyed the food.I came by for dinner on Tuesday, 7/26/2016 around 4:30 PM. Hardly any cars in the parking lot. I walked in and saw signs advertising Tuesday specials they usually post outside in the entrance way. I walked in. I only heard music. There was no one at the bar. There was no one to greet me and show me to a table. I waited two minutes. I didn’t hear or see anyone. I left.I drove to La Napolera on Kingsley Ave. and had a great dinner.
No where near the best in town. They have a lot to make up for. They charge you for chips after your first basket! Who does that? Food took a very long time to come out. Cheese dip was something you could buy and heat up yourself. The only thing that was decent was the flavors used in the meat.
The first time we went there, the salsa was delicious with a lime taste. We went the other night and the salsa was horrible. It tasted smoky. Very disappointed since I judge the Mexican Restaurants I go to by their SALSA since I put it on everything I order. I might try this place one more time hoping they serve the BEST SALSA EVER! Also, big chunks of tomato which also ruined it.
My family loves this place and eats there at least once a week. It’s the best Mexican food in town! The salsa is really good as is the tableside guacamole. Anything with steak or chicken is going to be fantastic. Even the soups are yummy favorites. They also have some entrees that are different from the standard fare. So far I haven’t tried anything I didn’t like.
Salsas has breathed new life into this restaurant location. I absolutely love the spinach enchiladas and highly recommend them! The menu strays from the typical Mexican restaurant offerings and provides guests with fresh new takes on classic menu items. Delicious!
We did not have a great experience at Salsas. We waited a while for the chips to arrive at our table. We waited a while longer for our order to be taken. We waited a while longer for our drinks to be brought to us. Then we waited 20 minutes (we timed it) for our meals to come out. I was given the wrong chimichanga as I had ordered the vegetarian version and was given steak. The server had brought it to the table and indicated the kitchen had a lot of chimichangas and couldn’t be sure mine was the correct one. He asked me to cut into it and even though it was steak I assured him I would keep it. After waiting 20 minutes for it, cutting into it and since I was lacking confidence in the kitchen to right their mistake I decided to keep it and gave the steak to my husband. Which turned out to be a good thing because the California Burrito he ordered was a very small portion and he felt like it was missing ingredients although he liked the taste of the meat. At the end of our meal, the server indicated he wouldn’t charge me for the steak version but would charge me full price for the vegetarian version. This is when I really started to question the entire situation. After looking at a menu I found that not only was I given the incorrect item but, according to the server, the steak chimichanga had been special ordered by another diner so it didn’t have the accompanying items! What a mess! What about the other diner? Plus I had not even been given the side items that went with the vegetarian version! I asked for a manager who graciously took off $3 from our bill. After the waiting, the food fiasco, no drink refills, no chip refills and the half hearted gesture by the manager to right the situation we decided this would be our only visit to this restaurant.
Awesome food and great service. We go often for lunch and are in and out quickly. Reasonably priced as well less then $10 for big portions. My favorite Mexican on the west side.
