I have a 20 year love affair with Hooters, but it seems the flame has gone out.I stated eating at hooters in Panama City Florida in 1997, not the beach location, the other one that I think closed. I would be there 2 – 3 times a week while I was at Tyndall AFB for training. I have been to locations both in the US and in Europe. Then there is all the other wing places I have eaten over the years, I have consumed way too many wings.Anyway, about my trip here!Something has happened to Hooters over the years and especially the Hooters I have had in the greater Tampa / Clearwater areas. The menu they have and the menu I have come to know and appreciate are not the same. For some reason they don’t appear to have Cajun on their menu down here. Cajun is a fantastic flavor and yet they don’t seem to have it here either in Florida or Tampa / Clearwater. The problem is this, Cajun is not a dry rub, so they use butter or oil together with the spice and it is very good.Hooters doesn’t seem to do dry rubs well, maybe if they prepared the dry rubs as wet like the cajun wings, they might be better, but overall, the dry rubs suck. Also, I have no idea what is occurring, but the wings breading is really thin, almost non-existent. This is another problem I have noticed in the Tampa area.Last, I seem to get quite a few broken boned wings, like they have a lower cheaper grade of wings to save money. I don’t like chewing on bone. Really, I don’t.I was going to give this place two stars, but the more I remember about my time at this location, the more I remember how lousy the food has gotten at Hooters.Hooters, I think I am going to leave you for another wing place.
The Original Hooters! What’s not to love?Breaded hot wings, you either love them or hate them. I happen to LOVE THEM. Spicy little fried chicken goodness? YES PLEASE. But also love that when Im not feeling wings n beer I can get a salad with grilled chicken and a glass of sangria. The oysters are good too. Service is always friendly with just enough flirty for all to feel welcome from a table of hungry dudes or a family headed to a beach weekend.
Went today and Haley was our server. Couldn’t get the order right, said we never ordered it. Couldn’t get ranch with my wings, again this was because we didn’t order any. The one positive side of today was that she was very quick to drop off the check, pretty sure she knew desert was no go. Very disappointed. This used to be a great place but service has gone down hill fast.
Have eaten here a few times. Food and service are usually good. Today, we were never acknowledged. We stood at the door and were ignored by several employees. We left. Since the snowbirds are back, I guess they don’t need locals.
