I wish this place well but it was empty on a Saturday night. Beautifully decorated and a welcoming staff were among the positives. The food was delicious from the beef barley soup to the chicken tangine. I had the scallops which were perfectly cooked but crusted with too much salt. The sides of spaghetti squash in ginger and lemon sauce and the spicy broccoli rabe were fabulous. I hope they do well but it needs a push promotionally to get things going.
Theyre Trying HardCarthage Grill is only a few months old. Unfortunately, the front of the house seems like theyve only been open for a few weeks. Everyone is extremely nice and want to be helpful. But there is a general air of disorganization. Hopefully they will get this under control soon. The restaurant is nicely decorated and feels quite comfortable. They use cloth napkins and tablecloths, a rarity these days. The menu is relatively simple with only about a dozen entrees available. A limited menu means that they should be able to do it all well and have everything in stock. A couple of the items were out. Prices are quite fair. They have a full bar and some nice special drinks that Ive not seen before. I enjoyed the Casablanca. They also have a good happy hour Sunday Friday 3-7pm.Many of the food items were very good. Most of the entrees come with a soup or salad. A cup of the potato-carrot-ginger soup was too heavy on the potato and overly grainy. The salad was generously sized and very nice. For entrees, we especially liked the chicken tagine which was moist and tasty. The lamb tagine was done in a nice sauce with figs, raisins, dates and apricots. Unfortunately, the lamb itself was a little overcooked and bland on its own. The accompanying vegetables were both wonderful. Another in our party got the cheeseburger. The burger itself was almost shaped like a ball. The very center was a pleasant medium, but to get there we had to get through the distant outer part which was overcooked and tough.I truly hope that this restaurant succeeds. They need some significant training in the front of the house as well as a few improvements in the kitchen. In any case, their heart seems to be in the right place.
