I like an experience, you get to eat on the water, watch birds, air boats etc and enjoy Everglades. Food on the other hand is not that great. Deep fried everything+ french fries. Considering the whole pkg it still is probably the best restaurant for tourists there.
Alligator was excellent with yum yum sauce
Go for the stone crab claws and steamed shrimp. Awesome.
Reviewing takeout window. I believe you can dine upstairs, but we ordered fish dip (great, just a bit spicy, and served with enough crackers, which is a rarity!) and fried scallops to eat on the outdoor picnic tables. Good eats with a beer and a view; nothing fancy. There is an ice cream stand in the building, but we did not try it on this visit.
Out of the way but worth a stop. While driving across southern FL we decided to take a new path and it brought us close to Everglades City. We decided to see what we could find for lunch and we were lucky enough to settle on City Seafood. We tried grouper wraps and hush puppies. The wraps were great and the hush puppies were good. The place is essentially open air, on water, and totally old FL casual in attitude. The food is freshly prepared and so you may have to wait a bit but it is worth it. The slaw on the grouper wrap was excellent. Other posts have mentioned the grouper was small- ours was not. They serve beer too- a nice plus when you want to relax for a leisurely lunch stop.
Great waterfront seating. Old rustic restaurant. Top 10 rudest waitstaff I have encountered. No greeting and just pointed and grunted at the menu on the wall when I asked for a menu. $42 dollars for 3 lunches. 1 basket and 2 sandwiches, really!?! Grouper sandwich is lightly breaded and fried. The sandwich is mostly bread, pretty thin fillet in the sandwich. Not any better then bar food. I think I had a McDonald’s filet o fish that was quite similar. Soft shell crab basket is nothing to write home about either. 2 small fried crabs on a bed of french fries. Really, the only thing this place has going for it is the waterfront view. Food: poorAmbiance: greatService: poorValue: poor!
Long wait for average seafood.. We waited over a half-hour for blackened shrimp and fried grouper – neither of which was hot or cooked to perfection. We were disappointed because we’d heard such good things about the food. My understanding, however, is that buying fresh seafood to cook at home is better. The restaurant itself is laid-back with plenty of outdoor/waterside seating. A/C available in the upstairs enclosed dining room.
