New owner is a complete jerk with no clue. I worked for him for about one week. Pays his workers under minimum wage which is of course illegal as well as immoral. Hired me as a waiter, and made me his busboy paying $7 an hour. And I’m sorry if I looked sour to the clientele but it’s pretty hard to keep a smile on your face living in Miami with a job like that. Think he’s in Europe, constantly belittles an insults america and Americans. Typical restaurant owner/manager douchebag.Anyway on to the venue. Located on a hard to find back street in a junkie old roach infested strip building. Kitchen is not real clean. Cross contamination definately. Steel wool pieces in the food occasionally from the sponge. Tacky decor, gross musty carpeting. Kind of a stuffy feel. The service: the owner is usually the waiter so that he can take any tips for the business. He is a real dick. If you want anything special good luck getting it. He won’t serve children, and on one occasion made our first reservation wait 20 minutes because they brought kids, and finally they left. If you ask for more of something he calls you a ballbuster. The food: actually this is where all of my 2.5 stars come from. If this review were solely about the food, this place would get at least a 3.5-4 maybe even a 4.5 on some days. Their pasta& sauce really is quite good, as is the fish and chicken but there is always something disappointing. The chef is not italian, the owner is french, and so authenticity is lacking. Could be the terrible joke of stale rolls he serves even with La Provence french bakery next-door, or the land of lakes butter. Or the watery tiramisu, seriously? Why should that ooze water! I’m italian and I’ve never sen that! Carpaccio is not done right, the tiramisu is a joke, the fish is all frozen (though that is a lot more common in restaurants than you might think). The pasta portions are also really small. What joke for a real italian like me.Anyway sometimes like last night they have a street festival called Giralda under the stars. I was there for one of those. I felt sooooo bad. I have never as a waiter felt so bad for all my customers. people were waiting all night just to get some bread and water. The dickhead owner wouldn’t let me do anything to help any of the customers but bring menus, set tables etc. He wanted to be the only waiter for 50 tables so that again, he could take all of the tip money. we had one busboy who wouldn’t do shit all night, and myself. I was sort of slipping into waiter role because the owner couldn’t handle 50 tables by himself but he got enraged. At the end of the night a table of like 15 black people wanted to split the bill up amongst a few parties. He refused to do it, largely due to his racism, and I had to step in and go around to 15 people and try to figure out what everyone had. I really saved his ass on that one because he would hardly even serve that table and made negative remarks about black people with his wife. But of course I got no appreciation. After a week of hard work for the guy, one day I worked from 11-past midnight, I got a grand total of $200 which his bank took a fee for cashing. And it worked out to an hourly rate of below minimum wage. But at least I’m not the 70 year old cuban dishwasher in the back. He told me he makes $5 an hour. So even if you love this restaurant, Id rethink your business there. It’s not something worth supporting. The only reason I didn’t sue for wage violations is because even if he had paid me min wage it would only have been about $50 more.
