IHOP move over, best breakfast in town!. Boy did we have a blast here! During one of those few times you can get 3 generations of your family under one roof, for breakfast, talk and laugh almost 20 people and the staff is accommodating, helpful and happy, not to mention the down home cooking for every dish ordered. From 5 year olds to my age (dont ask) with equally mixed personalities, culinary expectations and tastes were all really satisfied at the our: 2 Eggs with Meat platter; French Toasts; Sliced Banana and Cereal; 2 Eggs Benedict; 3 Egg Sandwiches with Bacon & Egg; Waffles with Fruit; 2 Scrambled Eggs with toast; 3 Omelets; and my Country Fried Steak with eggs, hash browns with really well prepared grits; along with an assortment of tea, milk, juices and coffee. This is for sure a familys meal-away-from-home place. Staff is attentive, down to earth, very helpful and jovial. The place is old, but immaculately clean and well kept, making such a large meal really worthwile. Go for it, you cant miss!
Good for a nice greasy breakfast and pastry!. Grampa’s was a very great experience. We walked in, and were told to have a seat anywhere, and a server would be with us shortly. Typical breakfast joint feel already, so it felt familiar. The breakfast menu was basic, but for what it lacked in creativity, it definitely made up for in quality, especially in regards to price. Our meals came with a complementary pastry, which we devoured. While waiting for a food (which took less than 10 minutes to come), we glanced over at the sweets in the revolving case, as well as at the bakery side of the restaurant. Everything looked amazing! After breakfast, we wandered back to the bakery and ordered every cookie they had. Try the cookie that has the brownie in the middle, it was amazing. Everything was made from scratch, and you can definitely taste the difference. I will visit Grampa’s again, and was a highlight of our Miami road trip.
Deli Prices for Non-Deli Quality. If you’re going to charge deli restaurant prices, you’d better be able to deliver deli restaurant quality. That is not what happened on our most recent visit to Grampa’s, on a busy Sunday afternoon. We were seated quickly and received beverages, but nothing happened for a long time after that. We had lots of time to look at the menu. After we placed our order, there was another very long wait. We both ordered Tossed Salad, one with additional shrimp salad and one with grilled chicken. The tossed salad is advertised as coming with hot fresh rolls and butter, and with lettuce, tomato, egg, olives, green pepper, cucumber, carrot, and green pepper, 7.99 without additional protein and 11.99 with our additions. When the salads arrived, I asked for rolls and butter, and was told that on weekends the danish that come with breakfast are the bread. Hmmph. That’s not exactly a good flavor match with bleu cheese dressing and grilled chicken. We demurred, instead asking for crackers. The salad contained lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, eggs and olives. There was (after some searching), ONE small SLIVER OF CARROT and ONE small SLIVER OF RED CABBAGE and NO GREEN PEPPER.So…No rolls, no carrot, no green pepper, and no red cabbage. There was grit in the salad. Coffee was never refilled, the crackers arrived after we finished our meal, and the dining room was obviously understaffed.I can compare this meal to a lunch the day before at Moe’s Bagels in Aventura, which has comparable prices, but is able to deliver a delicious, fresh meal with large portions while being totally packed to the gills. Grampa’s could take a few lessons from their competition.
Over priced for breakfast!!!!!!. The food was Average butnthenprice was overboard. I had to ask for the complimentary Danishes that arrived after our food. The French Toast was good and in abundance. Mi suggest do not order food for kids under 10 because two can definitely share portions. My son loved his overpriced omelet and the orange juice was too much pulp.
Little Disappointed for a Bakery. I moved to the area 6 months ago from Key West. I was told I had to eat at Grampa’s Bakery & Restaurant. First time there, great service, great size portions for dollar, food was excellent (for the homecooked/comfort food). I was impressed with the fresh rolls and pecans rolls that sat on the table and offered while waiting for your meal. But, I must say I was more than a little disappointed when I went there, less than two weeks ago. It was a dreary/gloomy day and wanted some comfort food. So I offered to treat my boyfriend to Grampa’s. Big mistake on my part. Don’t get me wrong. The only good thing about the experience is that we had to sweetest wait person ever. Everything else in the quality and to the size of the meals have gone down hill. And right above our table on the wall was a piece of paper taped to the wall that there restaurant would be featured again on diners, dives and drive-ins with Guy Fieri. It was taped clearly in the day that everything that came out of the kitchen was excellent. Looks like the owner (which is a lady-not a man) has found some cheap ways to still offer mediocre rolls (not the fresh baked rolls and pecan rolls from their in house bakery). The supposed salad that came with the meal was mostly that not so nutritional iceberg lettuce and then it was topped with one sliced hard boiled egg, a little bit of shredded carrots, and a couple wedges of tomato and cucumbers. I eat the good stuff and left almost the whole entire salad. The meal we ordered was ok but the portion was definitely not the portion that used to offered at the restaurant. To say the least, I know other restaurants that offer better food and I am willing to pay more money for quality and quantity then mediocre meals. Sorry Grampa, your time has past and you real should re-consider maybe revamping the meals and if need be up the price on the meals and serve your patrons with meals that people can rave about.
Tried this place today. It was packed the free Danish were seriously delicious and the best part! Omelette was standard diner type, hash browns were great, the biscuits were great but the gravy was bland and did not have chunks of sausage. French toast was divine. Worth trying.
When we first moved to the area, Grampa’s was still a good place to eat. Serving sizes were huge, and the quality of the food was excellent. Sadly, both of these things have changed. Starting with the bread, the meal was average at best. The bread was inedible, which is pretty bad for a place known as a bakery. The garlic bread that came with my spaghetti was burnt, and the spaghetti was just average. The salad was all white iceberg, and just bad. Also not eaten. Serving sizes have definitely been reduced since our last visit, and just not worth going. The only good thing about the visit was that the server was good. Food, not so much. We won’t be returning. Too bad. It was formerly a great place.
