After the barbaric and unusual pool experience at the Hilton, I gave up on the hotel altogether. I know I know. I can be too sensitive some times, and unapologetically high maintenance when upset and hungry. Dolled myself up and decided to walk down Atlantic Ave to seek for a place to eat. The weather kept threatening with rain, but enjoyed sucking up the air and spewing down humidity. Who came up with the absurd idea that the walk might be fun?My curls were all over the place. Impossible to calm down the attack of the frizzies. When I dont know where I am going to end up, I tend to over pack my purse with opportunities. My hand bag weighed a ton. Even Mary Poppins would have dropped it on the sand and kept on walking. Thank God, I was too upset to insist on wearing platform heels. Have I mention that I am not a beachy kind of girl? (I know, I know the play with the spelling. Yes, I can be that other spelling, but not this one.) My idea of fun is not a bunch of touristy shops with logo shirts and beach wear neither is it sticky sand on my body, huge fruity drinks with amusing names, flip-flop sounds against the pavement, fluorescent tequila shots and a college vibe. No. St Elmos Fire was never my issue But, because my guardian angel, Azucena, has a comic streak, she sent me to Daytona against my better judgment and out of pure love. Gave up on all the chain restaurants along the avenue. Returned to the Hilton Hotel and all was suddenly well.Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse saved the day. What an elegant and soothing place! There was a bit of confusion with mine as to whether some were appropriately dressed. The Fickle Eater is even more self-aware than I am. I asked. No problem. Shorts were okay. No reservation. Also no problem. I loved the caricatures painted on the wall… the wonderful lamps… the dimness… the calmness. We were promptly seated and greeted by two young servers who remained tending to us the entire night. The restaurant offers a great selection of wines by the glass which I was grateful for. A very nice, chilled Pinot Grigio went perfectly paired with my Lobster Mac and Cheese (it was not done with macaroni but with penne.)Al dente and brothy. Chunks of lobster. A side dish, which I ordered and became a meal in itself. Enjoyed the little detail of the crustacean shells tail decorating the dish. The French onion soup was decadent. Definitely freshly made. The cheese perfectly melted into one huge glob of tasty fat. Everyone loved it at our table. Bit of arguing over who deserved the bread soaked at the bottom. We also tried the Ahi Tuna Tower. Beautifully presented over a mountain of shaved ice. Colorful. A salty and crispy rainbow bitten in your mouth. We ordered the 36-day dry aged reserved 26 ounces Rib eye to share. Perfectly cooked. Enough pink to make me happy, enough cooked to please the others. Service remained sophisticated and attentive throughout. I am extremely observant. I could feel them watching over us from afar. Very aware of our needs. There was never a need for water or a morsel of bread on the white table cloth. Table-side attention at is best.We ended the night with a crme Brule. This dish was the only dish that tasted ordinary. We discussed its texture… it reminded me of a cheese flan, a version of a cheese cake we cook back in Puerto Rico. It was not a flan, or a pudding, or a pana cotta… neither a brule. It did not have the coldness of the crme challenging the warmth of the recently scorched sugar top. The caramel not hardened enough to compete with the softness of the crme, nor dark enough to fight with bitterness the sugar of the crme. I always say that if I were a dessert, I would be a crme Brule. But not this one.I dont have many reasons to return to Daytona. If I ever return I will never stay at the Hilton, but I will definitely revisit this Prime Steak House. The only thing worth experiencing at the Hilton.
We had our son’s graduation celebration, from ERAU, in the Chef’s Room for 20 people. It was an outstanding experience for all. The food and service were spectacular!
Don’t waste your money here!. So we decide to celebrate our anniversary at Hyde Park tonight, what a mistake. Let’s start with the good, the lead waiter was well trained and friendly, the steaks were cooked to perfection, the ambience was nice. Now the reality. This place is way overpriced for the quality of the experience. We ordered a shrimp cocktail appetizer, the shrimp were rubbery, tasted fine, but expensive and nothing special, tartar sauce was bland and flavorless. The bread that came to the table was a pretzel roll, tasted fine but not crusty, too soggy and soft. We split a salad, no complaints. Then out come the steaks, looked great, cooked to perfection, but no seasoning, flavorless and cold. I’m paying over $40 for a steak and I gotta reach for the salt shaker? Really? The mushroom side dish, bland as well, the Brussel sprouts were good, not great. They gave us a desert on them to celebrate our anniversary, very nice gesture, they don’t even ask us if we want coffee, so we have to ask for the cappuccinos, and the coffee comes out cold 10 minutes after we order it. So now let’s address the service, slow as molasses, no wonder the steaks and coffee came out cold. We had a two waiter team, neither paid attention to us in a timely fashion. Everything took what seemed like forever! How disappointing, but Wait, there’s more. So the bill comes, I throw down the AMEX, leave a generous tip, get up and wait for the valet to get our car. The waiter runs out to tell me they rang the wrong bill, similar price point, but wrong and if I can come take care of it. It turned out to be a difference of 20%, no big deal really, but you would think the manager would be apologetic, or even take care of the difference since it was his mistake or offer us a free appetizer or desert next time? Nothing, here’s your real bill, sign here please!, something like that happens at Ruth’s Chris, Capital Grille or even Flemings, and the manager makes sure he figures out how to take care of the inconvenience, they handled that so poorly, that’s all on corporates poor training. Bottom line, this is an overpriced restaurant with just ok food, and friendly but poor service, don’t waste your hard earned money here, they just don’t get it, there are plenty of good quality steakhouses at much better price points in Daytona. We own a condo in Daytona, when we’re here, we tend to go out to eat, we are essentially locals that will not visit again,. I know they probably don’t care, how sad is that, since they cater to the tourists more, but don’t discount the locals. This is supposedly fine dining, but I had a better experience at the local hole in the wall shorts and t-shirt joint for lunch at a tenth of the price, what does that tell you?
Was pleased with the service and food. My strip was cooked as I asked and the au gratin was awesome. Only thing I wish they had was a steak on the kids menu. Had to order my 10yr old a 7oz filet mignon. Overall, I would go back if I ever come back to Daytona.
While in Daytona for our honeymoon, we wanted to go somewhere special for dinner, Hyde park was recommended to us, so we thought we would try it! First I’ll start with the bad. Everything is A la carte so when the waiter asked me what kind of salad I wanted with my meal, I paid $10 for a salad I just picked at! Also when we first go there the waiter asked us if we would like some water, we said yes and next think I know I just bought an $8 bottle of water! No big deal woulda just liked to know before hand. Now to the good. The food was nothing short of spectacular, best steak and lobster I’ve ever eaten, wife agreed her steak was perfect!! The lobster Mac and cheese was amazing!! We will definitely be going again before we leave to go home!!! We will just pay a little more attention to what we are ordering lol, also the staff was very friendly and outgoing!!!!
The food is handled with care and cooked to perfection, this and the friendly professional staff made this the part of my trip I will remember the most
Excellent food and service. I am not sure who has been posting the reviews, but we had a 16 oz lobster tail and a 26 oz dry aged bone-in ribeye. Honestly it blows away Prime 112 on SOBE, STK, New York Prime in Boca and Chops in Boca. Well worth the money. If you want inexpensive stick to outback. If you want good food come here.
