I was happy to see a new Thai place open in the area as most are rather pricey for the Daytona market. Not surprisingly, this was no exception. $14 for basic Thai dish is steep, but would be forgiven if the portion was big. But I couldn’t believe my eyes when they brought the child-size plates to the table. I left with a hunger to continue my search for a good, regular person sized meal. Atmosphere is fine, staff was polite. But they aren’t paying the check. Won’t be back.
No. I did not physically go to this place. But I ate their food as I survived the heat, the humidity and the stress the Hallifax Rowing Races put me through. The food from Ivory Thai might have saved my life. The taste forever imprinted in my overly tattooed mind.I had secretly prayed the weather forecast of stormy winds and rains became true. Although the morning appeared overcast; by noon the sun was merciless. I ran back and forth from the entrance of the bridge to the island park every time I thought my Finicky Foodie was rowing. I have a driving phobia and a crossing street phobia which I practice overcoming each day. This day the bridge-crossing raised my blood pressure to new highs. Our tent was quite far from the actual race. Between the phobia and the flamboyant pride, I took videos and photos. of many young men who were not my own. I am a terrible mother. I confused him with everyone who wore a yellow tank top (mind you, the entire team wore yellow) and who remotely resembled him. He competed in three races. Each scheduled three hours apart. I should have taken a couple of bottles of Pinot Grigio or some home- made sangria with me, but I did not want to be the boozy mother (again!). I had embarrassed him enough when in one of the races one of the kids boat turned over and I screamed enthusiastically: Thats my son! Yeah! Go, boy! You are mine!!! at the top of my lungs and as defiant as Leonardo Di Caprio in Titanic. Needless to say, he was not even from our team.A kind soul decided to walk two blocks and feed me out of my heat-induced mania. He brought Goza (fried pork dumplings that made me want to learn how to cook.) There was also an incredibly savory Tom Kha Gai (chicken simmered in coconut milk soup, mushrooms and lemongrass.) Yes, the soup was not a great choice for such a warm day, but we were gathered inside the closed back of my SUV with the air conditioning blasting at full force. I still have the marks of the nose smashed against the glass windows which prove the envious moment we were experiencing. The Pad Thai and the fried rice could easily pass for fine dining (luckily without the added cost). Nothing was too spicy or too salty. No excess of soy sauce to mask tasteless food. This was umami the taste of nature in many forms. Wholesome. After that carbo fest, I took a nap in the trunk of the SUV. Crankiness gone. I was so focused I managed to recognize my Finicky Eater rowing his heart away as he made it to a silver medal. I could finally make some sense of that Thats my son! Yeah, baby! You are mine!— Behind me, I heard a murmur: Finally, she got that one right.
Delicious Crab Rangoon and a Variety of Fresh & Flavorful Dishes. We have visited Ivory Kitchen several times with various friends and we all have been delighted with our meals each time. The Crab Rangoon is made with curry and is wonderful! The dish called Amazing is appropriately named. Everything tastes very fresh and the vegetables are cooked just right. We have tried the Panang Fish – my husband’s new favorite – and the Sweet and Sour Chicken – my latest favorite. The menu is extensive and items are made to your specifications. The owner is very accommodating and welcoming. The warm sesame balls filled with red bean paste make a nice, light dessert.
Fabulous Cashew Chicken!. The location is great! Beautiful view ( inside or out), Clean, friendly and the cashew chicken is wonderful!Highly recommend that you treat yourself…soon!
Excellent food, very authentic Thai. I have spent a lot of time in Thailand and this restaurant is as close to Thailand food as I have tasted in the Daytona area. Highly recommended.
Jamie. Foods there are delicious ! Price are vey fair compare to other Thai restaurants. I love the people whom work there, they are very kind, specially the owner!
Authentic South East Asian Food. I think this is one of the best Asian restaurants in Daytona Beach, with a more diverse menu list than most others in the city. Not only do you get to pick from a variety of choices, the taste of each meal is very authentic and delicious. I personally think that the Soft Shell Crab is a very special and tasty South East Asian dish. The owner is a really nice person who’s always open to having conversations with her customers. Definitely recommended for everyone, especially those who are curious to try out recipes from the Far East. 🙂
