Ronin = Amazing Sushi. I discovered this place while traveling solo on business through the website yelp.com. I searched for dinner and this restaurant was listed one of the top restaurants in the area. I arrived around 7:15 PM on a Thursday evening in the middle of February. I was able to locate parking very easily on a lot that sits in between buildings. The atmosphere of this location is middle bear nice. The lighting and somewhat darker atmosphere lends itself to an inviting social restaurant and the buzz of the clientele made me instantly feel right at home. I requested to be sat at the sushi bar which was empty at my time arrival. It did fill up the half a dozen seats that were there while I dined.I went to use the washroom and unfortunately discovered it to be quite in disarray with water on the floor as well as paper towels scattered throughout. I was told the server would be right with me but I mustve sat there staring into space for a good five minutes or so until a gentleman came over and asked if anybody had gotten with me yet to which I replied no and he then said someone would be right with me. Shortly thereafter Megan arrived. She asked me what I wanted to drink and I was already ready with my entire order. I ended up having a bottle of Ichiban for five dollars, a Ronin roll for $11.95, and a ginger salad. She smartly brought my beer along with a cold pint glass and a glass of water. She did ask if Id like a glass which was considerate as well. I was so busy watching Brandon prepare sushi, I didnt even take the time to figure out whether or not they had any TVs in this location. In my humble opinion, he is everything you want in a sushi chef. Hes meticulous, fast, efficient, and he truly cares about his creations which is evident by his plating skills. Additionally, safety seems to be a top priority in this place with everyone washing their hands frequently and cleaning their workstations after each roll is prepared. I found myself lost in watching him create his art, so much so he called me sir three times before I realized he was talking to me having had prepared my roll. My salad was brought shortly thereafter. Presentation on both was very elegant. My salad was nicely prepared with a spring mix instead of just leaf lettuce. Unfortunately though, it was drowning in dressing. Otherwise it was a nice salad. I found absolutely no fault in my Ronin roll. In fact it was so good I devoured the entire thing and probably 15 minutes. Something to note, all of the soy sauce served is low-sodium regardless of the color of the cap.Megan arrived to ask if Id like another beer and how everything was. I informed her about my salad to which she apologized and explained that it can be a hit and or miss item for the dressing. She explained that sometimes the dressings really thick and sometimes its watery like tonight. If I had any advice it would be to attempt to get some quality control in place to make sure that its consistent. I opted, Instead of another beer, even though the price is right, to do dessert instead, having Megan pick out what I should get. She chose the fried banana for six dollars. This is one of those desserts that could easily support two people but it was so damn delicious I easily devoured it myself! It features a sliced banana wrapped in some light crispy batter and fried. Some slices of strawberry, plenty of chocolate and caramel swirled on the plate for garnish surrounding a scoop of vanilla ice cream. After I wrapped up dessert and asked for the check, I actually contemplated purchasing another beer to just sit and watch the artistry before me. But alas, since I was here on business I needed to get back to my room in order to create this review and get some sleep for my day tomorrow. When I reviewed my check after I got to my hotel, I realized that Megan did me solid by removing the salad from my bill and as a result I must apologize that I didnt accommodate her for this in the tip. I did however; throw a couple of bucks into the tip jar at the sushi bar. Overall, I was really impressed with this place. Its one of those unexpected rare gems you find that you really want to hang onto for forever. Im hoping it sticks around until the next time I visit for I will certainly return.
Great value, AMAZING SUSHI. Ronin was a really excellent value. The sushi prices were extremely reasonable even for the specialty rolls and the fish was so fresh I’m pretty sure it was swimming just this morning. A truly great find!
