Very Good!. The reviewer that wrote the nasty review about the owner CLEARLY had an issue with her. Also, he CLEARLY Only wanted attention as he made several references about how he spoke loudly, with people at other tables etc… IF the owner ignored him it was well deserved I am sure. Now to my review…this place is unpretentious, cozy and the food is very good as is the service. The prices are reasonable if not low by comparison. The health department rating is 100! The owner was lovely, seated us immediately, spoke with our small children and made sure that we were checked on often. Our experience could not have been better. We will be back!
Rancid olive oil. I just moved to the area and being Sicilian one looks for a decent local family Italian restaurant.M&D is on the main drag and I pass on a regular basis.I see cars out front, so this is a good sign, maybe.Well I finally had a chance to see if I could enjoy a decent authentic Italian meal.Walked in, atmosphere was ok, looked freshly painted in the last couple of years. The staff did not seem concerned with a new face walking in, or that I was a customer.I had to say, I would like to be seated. Ok strike one.The waitress took over, before even the owner did anything, hearing me say I would like to be seated sort of loud.My waitress was genuinely nice and concerned to serve me regardless of the managements poor reception and food polices.Ok they have Pizza and assorted pasta and such. The menu looked good even though it was a bad copy of a copy of a copy.I am the type who judges a restaurant on food quality first, staff second, and stupid LUCKY owners last.Well, for a first time I was losing faith quick but lets see when I get my bread and salad.Ok, the bread was warm but mysteriously got hard as a rock, wait a minute it was nice and warm at first like fresh baked??Oh my gosh first rule of not to do with bread is NO microwave!!! Ok I was about to leave, but the waitress got some bread she warmed in the oven herself apologizing. I said ok she is trying, so I ask for a little olive oil for the bread. After more confusing actions I got a bowl of rancid olive oil, I had the sniffles so I asked the waitress to taste/smell it.I said all I could taste was old paint or bad turpentine. She agreed, her ex was a painter so she knew what I was saying and confirmed. All this time the owner can hear me and other regular customers are making comments to me some time good sometime bad. Oh yea the bread was from Winn-Dixie bakery. After 30 minutes I finally got my pizza, I was doing paperwork also or I would have already left.I have had better chef Boyardee my 5 year old niece made than this. The crust was like cooked paste, it was seriously just flour water and maybe some oil.Thin crust alright, the mushrooms were wet canned type and not even hot, the rest of the ingredients were not even as good as the prepackaged stuff you get at Sams. The melted cheese was the only thing that tasted like real food.I tipped my waitress well because she tried hard to make up for the inept lady who owns the place. The owner was aware of me from the time I walked in and she walked away from the front counter leaving me there standing, heard every time I ask about something and I had to ask her if she was the owner when I complained to the cashier.Mrs. MOM I know your husband died, and maybe the quality died with him, please do yourself and customers a favor and sell out to someone who cares.I ask why are you in business with your attitude to service and quality. You are doing dishonor to the memory of your late Italian Husband. It was a two weeks later I was enjoying a decent pizza at Pizza Hut when I found out M&D the restaurant makeovers TV show. Some people never learn.
It was okay…. We drove out from Crestview to visit this restaurant for the first time. The decor is beautiful and the service was excellent. The food…well…I guess I would say it is average. I ordered the Spaghetti ala Bruzzi. It seemed to be topped with cheddar cheese which was unexpected. I was excited about the Caeser salad with garlic dressing, but I could barely taste the dressing! My husband had ravioli with Italian sausage. He said it was okay. The food wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t great either. We had a good time with our friends, like we always do, but I doubt we’ll drive out there again for this restaurant.
Great Change.. I disagree with some of the reviews. I think Robert did a great job. He added fresh ingredients, including meats, and updated some of the dishes. The food taste much better and choices are good. I like the appearance of the restaurant. It’s not Italy, it’s Florida so the colors are fine. I do think she would solve a lot of her problems by being open on Sunday, but good for her if she can get by without doing so. Thanks, Robert, for great tasting food and good luck to Mom & Dad’s.
Amazing!. I have made the trip from PC for many years to Mom & Dads… It is well worth the trip. The food has always been exceptional and fresh. The house dressing is light, crisp and mouth watering! The new decor is good, but I loved the former ambiance. The new floors are great, but the wall color is a little to beachy for Italian. However, the walls fast fade away when you take that first bite of heaven….the food!!! (especially one of Carolyn’s homemade deserts!!!) Carolyn, thank you for being the foundation of this wonderful place and know that we will be back, time and time again!
*****Best Food In Northwest Florida!. I wish the TV Guy would have stayed home! You should have Just raise the prices and left it the way it was! Just Raise the Price and we will keep coming! If you want to taste some good Italian Food this is the place! The owner spends from daylight to Midnight making her food. She is a great person and has a great product! As for Mr. TV ! You sure know how to mess things up! Echo!!!! Change the Menu and make the place look like it has a cheap paint job with no home town feeling! I will keep going there from now on because; I love her food and her hard work and her staff! Please raise the price and go back to the way it was and you will have more customers! Now it is like eating in at an echo box and we don’t have the great things you worked so hard for. I will be glad to pay extra and call up Mr. TV and tell him he hurt you customers. What makes him so great? All he knows how to do is mess things up! I Love your food just the way it was and wish you would put the place back the way it was so the non-believers would know what they are missing. You have the best food in Northwest Florida and Mr. TV needs to go back to school and learn from you! Please, all the locals love you and liked it the way it was. Nobody likes change and I know why now! I dont mind paying more for the good things in life and you should get what your food is worth! Everyone needs to check out the Mom and Dads I grew up on! TV GUY GOOD RIDDANCE! GREATEST PLACE TO EAT IN FLORIDA! IT WAS, UNTIL TV GOT INVOLVED!
Enjoyable, Nostalgic. The thing that really gets me about these restaurant rehab style shows is that they spend such little time in the subject businesses to responsibly effect change for the better. Conversely viewers who watch the emotion and drama of the episode think that they get real insight into the industry.Mom & Dads is the first spot where I have had experience before and after a t.v. makeover, and I will actually give the producers of the show kudos for not radically changing the food. This is home cooked Italian American fare, and the food should not have been changed. The Caesar salad had an enjoyable harshness reminding me of something from a long forgotten time. If it wasnt house made, it was certainly well thought out. The spaghetti was as thin enough to qualify as angels hair, and the sauce was flavorful. The portions were enough. To the one time reviewer comparing the pasta to fast food, let me qualify my comments. I am a former restauranteur, former food consultant, and avid maker of homemade pasta and sauce. I know homemade, and I know fast food. There is no comparison here. This food isnt super sophisticated, but good and comforting. The fried cheese might have been a change, but it was unquestionably homemade, and a delight harkening back to childhood.Even if I would not describe the pizza as noteworthy, I really like the rare cracker-like crust. This is the original of five locations, and probably the oldest Italian restaurant in Florida. Cut them some slack.
