Mix of unprofessional staff, good food, decent prices, & cozy atmosphere.Asked for Simple Syrup, they don’t carry it.Asked to mix sugar w/ hot coffee, told they don’t.Asked to please add sugar, told I can do it myself.Issues are not having supplies for a coffee shop & not properly filtering candidates during the hiring process. Please form your own opinion, but reviews over the years show a trend of an unresolved staff issue.
I stopped in for a cup coffee but the menu looked good so I decided to eat. I ordered the Boston Benedict featuring an avocado hollandaise sauce. Upon receiving the order I noticed that there was sliced avocado so I opened up the sandwich to see that the hollandaise sauce had broken (little chunky bits). The avocado slices were hard and the rest of the sandwich was cold, the server took it off my bill. I told her Id give them another chance but not today. Cleaning, cordial, and comfortable.
Small Cafes are nearly lost in this town, I’m proud of Boston for staying great.. I remember about five years ago I went coffeeshop hopping with a few friends, we started in Sanford and worked north. Unfortunately there weren’t many options to begin with, the local Starbucks is in a Target for god’s sake. Needless to say when we made it to Boston we never left. To this day it’s one of my favorite ways to spend a day off, in the back room where it’s quiet, drinking coffee and espresso that is as good if not better than Starbucks. The prices for drinks meet and sometimes beat the chains, and food prices are comparable to lunch specials in the surrounding restaurants. I prefer the half sandwich/soup/salad option, I usually go with a turkey twist and half a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. With coffee I’m under $15 on my tab and that’s cheaper than any chain with the same amount of food. The coffee is excellent, hearing a proper espresso machine running every few minutes is great.Overall I have very few critiques. I’m happy to see a very recent update and reprint of the menus, though I think they could manage to have seasonal espresso options. The atmosphere is quiet and homey, and very clean. I don’t know that the other bad reviewers have taken a chance to come back yet, it seems that the restaurant has bad luck with customers only reviewing on the bad days. Every restaurant has them. I’ve never received bad enough service that a polite talk with the waiter can’t fix. The servers may be young, but they know what they’re doing. Service: 8/10Food: 7/10Atmosphere: 9/10Overall: 8.5/10
