Words can’t even explain how amazing this restaurant is. Without question in my top five meals of all time! To start we live downtown Orlando, so we made the 45+ minute drive up to Deland because I had read about the 4 time James Beard semi-finalist chef, and the restaurant style intrigued me. 5 or 7 courses with wine pairing all inclusive, even gratuity. When we arrived we met Executive chef Hari almost immediately, he came out to greet the table and thanked us for coming. His wife, and GM/Wine specialist Jenneffer gave us the details of her chosen pairings for each course, and was very accommodating when we needed a few more ounces. Chef Hari came out and took our order himself for each course, and his sous chef accompanied him to deliver each dish with a brief explanation. This restaurant is a good as it gets at farm to table, with seasonal bests. The courses compliment each other perfectly, and you just cant help but rave at each bite. As a table we had many of the different options, but my choices were hands down the best. I started with the shellfish chowder, it was creamy and there was no missing the shellfish, next I had the Pumpkin Gnocchi and it tasted like thanksgiving day, seasonal perfections. The next course was the Pork jowl tasso, with braised fall greens, black eyed peas and a farm egg…perfectly salty and delicious -this was my second favorite course, and again with precise execution -it reminded me of New Years day in the south, next was the main course and my favorite, Waygu beef, and lamb meatloaf….when chef came out to check on us, all I could say was holy !*@!* it was that amazing… not your typical meatloaf, it was like a perfectly seared steak, juicy and delicious…. I would put this meatloaf up against any high end filet mignon, any time, any day. Last I finished with the Orange infused pots de crme, and it didn’t disappoint, light and flavorful. I can’t wait to return next season to see what this incredible Chef has up his sleeve. X <3 L
Rushed service takes away from good food. Our waiter was NOT knowledgeable about the menu. He did not provide recommendations when asked nor did he have any details to specific questions regarding menu items. We were told that our table was booked for the next sitting and asked to leave after we paid our bill. In the meantime, we saw guests at other tables that had arrived BEFORE us still sitting when we left. My husband and I brought my parents here to experience a high-end delicious dining experience. When you are paying that amount of money, you want the whole experience, and you do not expect to be rushed from your table after paying the bill. I would not recommend Cress to anyone I know locally. I would tell refer friends to The Ravenous Pig or Cask & Larder in Winter Park for their FAR SUPERIOR food and dining experience.

Very upset. Went to Cress expecting fine dinning,my food came out cold,had to motion for the waiter,my friend was severed first and i had to wait for mine,this would normal not bother me but waiter gave no reason why,I agree with another reviewer,when we talked to the manager,she treated us like it was a privilege for us to there,when i spend that kind of money i expected more,i mean the restaurant wasn’t full,the waiter filled our water glasses when we were leaving,who does that???? i will NEVER go back,i guess its back to going out of town to fine dine 🙁
Best Dining Experience…EVER!!. I was trying to think of something special to do for my dad’s 60th birthday and happened upon the website for Cress yesterday. Even though they are closed on Mondays, I took a chance and e-mailed them to try and reserve the Chef’s Table for his birthday today (being Tuesday). Within 30 minutes, I received a call from Chef Hari himself and together we discussed my family’s likes, dislikes, allergies, etc. and he made us a reservation for the Chef’s Table (mind you, this is with less than 24 hour notice and he contacted me on his day off)! The dishes he prepared for us were nothing short of amazing – a crispy risotto cake topped with homemade guacamole, a beautiful bibb salad with applewood smoked tomatoes and roasted grapes, the best porkchops and fish (I believe it was Golden Tile fish) dishes with his take on grits and beluga lentils, duck breast with blackberry / habanero sauce and pureed parsnips, tikka masala curry and finally chocolate pot de creme, creme brulee and key lime tart for dessert! In addition, Chef Hari was extremely personable and friendly, our waiter Sean was entertaining and engaging and the ambiance was relaxed but modern.Our overall experience:Food = best my family and I have ever had – each dish was carefully prepared and servedStaff = friendly, helpful and attentiveAmbiance = we loved that we never felt rushed – we were there for almost 3 hours!It is worth every dollar spent! My dad even said it was a birthday he will never forget!!
This is one of the best restaurants in Central Florida. It has a unique menu that changes seasonally and is always a delight to peruse. I travel from my home to dine here knowing I’ll have a wonderful date night experience. Everything I have tried has been excellent, well prepared and presented, and more than worth the price charged. Thank you Chef Hari for your amazing contribution to our community!
Fine Dining at its best!!. It is always a treat to eat Chef Hari Pulapaka’s creations. Cress Resturant is where my wife and I go when we want a true dining memory with friends and family. There is simply no better package of amazing food and atmosphere in the area.
