Love this place!. This is my favorite pizza place in the area. Great pasta, too. And the garlic knots are to die for. The salad is always fresh – I get the Greek one. I’ve been there many times and never been disappointed once.
Bad. New to areaHeard it was greatService was badFood was terrible
Terrible!. Since this place had such great reviews, my husband and I were eager to try it. I don’t think I have ever been so disappointed in a restaurant. We stopped in at 2:30 pm on Friday afternoon. There were a few tables, but the place was not what I would call busy. Our table was sticky. There was a rag sitting on the table next tours, so grabbed it and wiped the table. There was a thick layer of grease and dust on the ceiling fans overhead, and the wine bottle decorations on the wall just above our table had a thick layer of dust as well. When a restaurant is that dirty in the front, I shudder to think what the kitchen looks like.We waited for 10 minutes before we could even get water. We ordered a Bruschetta Pizza, which is supposed to have olive oil, garlic basil, tomatoes, spinach, onions, mozzarella cheese, and feta cheese. after nearly 30 minutes we finally got the pizza. I don’t think there was any olive oil, garlic, or basil on the pizza, and it was very light on cheese. The tomatoes and spinach were flavorless, and the crust was hard as a rock. It was by far the worst pizza I’ve ever had. We had to ask for silverware and napkins, and the waitress didn’t return to ask if the food was okay for over 15 minutes. When I told her it was terribly bland, she said she was sorry to hear that and told me to pay at the counter. Then she gave me her employee discount, which was about 10%, to make up for the long wait and bad food. She never even acted like she might tell someone we were unhappy with our food, even though we had seen the owner on the premises. We will not be returning!
Good and cheap lunch!. My husband and I visit Tony’s; usually for lunch, at least 1-2 times per month. Even with a generous tip, Tony’s lunch specials are cheaper than getting fast food slop and they’re pretty good! They give everyone at the table a garlic knot, which are usually fresh and are home baked. Pizza slices are very generous and the salads are usually fresh. Service seems to be best at lunch, which is when head server Mel works. In our opinion, she’s the best server they have; she’s very attentive and she treats you like family. Whatever you do, don’t try to get a seat or put in a to go order past 8:30. Chances are you won’t be served. We got there for dinner once at 8:45 (mind you, they close at 9:00) and saw Tony give a disapproving head shake to the attending server, who told us we had to leave. There were several people in the restaurant at that point but…oh well. We weren’t feeling the love! The last time we went there for dinner, someone called a to go order in at 8:43 and their order was rejected as well. Oh well, so long as you don’t expect the stereotypical friendly Italian chef coming out to greet you like you were family, you’ll be fine! We go for the food and the value. So, we don’t let the fact that the owner isn’t friendly bug us too much.
I love Tony’s. Tony and Johnny are like family to me. I have been going to Tony’s since 2004. I love this restaurant. It has the best Stromboli in town. Their service is outstanding and right in the middle of Downtown Deland, so you want miss any action. –Hector R. Cuprill, Jr., Esq.
One if the reasons we love DeLand. One of the great things about DeLand is the family run restaurants in downtown- you go to Tony’s and most likely Tony is there- the staff has always been great- whether it’s eat in or take out…try the bruschetta pizza!
The service was poor, ordered chicken franchise and the meat was full of grizzle… could not cut it! Came with ziti that must have been sitting forever, cold pasta on warm marinara. 2 thumbs down.
