Poor service and bland food not a good combo. Off season lunch so it wasn’t crowded but still the waitress was slow and inattentive. Crab cakes and mahi mahi were pretty bland and way over priced for the quality of the food
AJ’s = Absolutely Delicious!!Awesome dining experience here. Excellent service. For starters we had three dozen raw oysters they were half off for happy hour. I probably could have kept on eating them because they were so fresh and delicious.The entre was excellent as well. I had a Po Boy, and my wife had a Mahi-Mahi sandwich. Which she loved.We also sampled the sushi. Very fresh and tasty. However might want to look at the price on your rolls…$17 for just one.I think the bad reviews are because this place is crazy crowded during vacation season. We came here in the off season, 2nd week of September. No wait and service was great.
AJ’s is one of those places we try to hit every time we visit Destin. The food is always amazing and the oysters are huge. Great atmosphere and service.
Destin, Florida is a destination growing in popularity and like any touristy area, it has its fair share of dining establishments. One that offers a waterfront view and casual atmosphere is AJs Seafood & Oyster Bar, a large restaurant in the heart of the city.The atmosphere at AJs Seafood & Oyster Bar is nautical in nature and it offers outdoor, waterfront dining in the company of large yachts. The establishment is not directly on the Gulf of Mexico, but rather on Destin Harbor so dont come here expecting wide, unobstructed views of the Gulf. You can ask to be seated on the upper level and get better views, but if you want a direct view of the Gulf at beach level, this is not the place for you. As for the food, I found it good but I must admit I was expecting better. The place specializes in seafood, but Im not a seafood fan so I looked for something else and ended up going with Teriyaki Chicken. It was seasoned well, the added fruits and veggies were flavorful, and the presentation was nice, but I was taken aback by the prices, which seem a little high for what you get. Of course, waterfront restaurants are always more expensive, but still. The other family members felt about the same way. There were no complaints and the wait staff gave us good service, but whether or not AJs Seafood & Oyster Bar is good enough to justify the prices is debatable.Destin is a nice change for a family destination and its restaurant, beer, bar, and entertainment scene are expanding and improving. AJs Seafood & Oyster Bar is a good place to visit and its popularity is evidence that the establishment has to be doing something right. As long as you can deal with the prices, you should be fine but it could also be a letdown for many who come here expecting something much better. Worst dining experience in a long time. Cocktails were watered down. Cokes were flat. Burgers were ordered well done and served rare. Not that it mattered because it was burnt and tasted like charcoal. Will not be back here.
Great atmosphere, kid friendly and awesome table service. Food was ok, but pricey for what you get in portion. Especially if you order the fresh fish. It won’t be a large portion.
Over Charged. Went to AJ’s while on vacation, a co-worker referred the restaurant based on her frequent visits to Destin. By it being my first time in area I gave it a try. I was disappointed in the bland over priced food. We ordered the Maui sandwiches which was bland, and my son had the kids steak that was tough, which ending up being a $74 lunch. The real disappointment came when we tried to resolve the bill. We received a $100 gift card from our vacation resort and used it as part of our form of payment. The balance on card was $43.40 which we wanted applied to our bill and pay the remainder with a credit card. The waiter returned and billed the entire amount on the credit card, due to the gift card kept declining. After researching the gift card balance on their website, and speaking with a customer representative, the gift card was redeemed at the time of the transaction. I pulled the transaction up on my phone from the gift card website displaying, AJ’s as the business of transaction, along with date, time, and amount. After getting no where with the waiter I spoke with the manager Megan, who was totally clueless on how to handle an overcharge, and lack customer service etiquette. She kept claiming the restaurant didn’t receive the money, even after viewing the proof that they in fact did. We paid $74 on our credit card for total bill, and also $43.40 off the gift card. An overcharge that should have been taken care of at the time The fact that I spent 45 minutes of my vacation speaking with the in competent manager Magan, about this matter is a reflection on the establishment lack of experience with customer service. I plan on visiting Destin and will NOT recommend AJ’s. Unfortunately I was referred, referrals can work for a business and also work against it! The easy solution was to refund us the $43.40 off our bill since it was collected from the gift card, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist! Customer service should be first priority, especially with food lacking with taste and all the other options in the area.
