Seafood chain restaurants offer a quick means to something familiar; a seafood fix that, while not the greatest in flavor, is at least consistent. A good example is Joes Crab Shack, a restaurant we visit from time to time when the family wants seafood and Joes is the first place we see.Joes Crab Shack does offer good deals on seafood and this location in Destin Florida is a good choice if you want an inexpensive temporary cure to your seafood craving. The problem with Joes, however, is that the food is, well, just average overall. I know some people who swear by Joes Crab Shack, but I think they are addicted to the prices, special deals, kids play area, and other factors more so than the actual quality of the food. Im not a fan of seafood so when I visit Joes crab Shack, I order the non- seafood items from the Out of Water section of the menu. I usually select the burger or the chicken tenders. They are okay, but little else can be said. The same is true with the beer selection. You might find one or two worthy options, but nothing more.This Joes Crab Shack location in Destin is easy to find. Its on the main road and it features a large interior with a good amount of seating as well as an outdoor play area for the kids. And in true Joes Crab Shack tradition, you can watch the crew members Shake the Shack every so often. These added features are nice, but I have a problem with any restaurant that is more appealing for its employee dance routine and childrens play area than for its food.Overall, Joes Crab Shack is a mediocre place and this location in Destin continues that trend. You should have no problem getting seated because it tends to be empty here and as long as your expectations for food and beers are average or below, you might enjoy yourself. greatbeernow.com
SKIP this place!!! I have been to Joe’s in the past and it has been good. This place is poorly run. We walked into a 1/2 empty restaurant and were told that there would be a 25-30 minute wait so they could clean and reorganize

Horrible food and service. We dined as a party of four. We received our food after a long wait. I ordered fish and chips. It was extremely breaded and hardly any fish. My husband ordered coconut shrimp and received it luke warm, sent it back to have it re-heated. It took over 20 minutes to get it back! They totally recooked the whole order. My daughter’s shrimp alfredo pasta came out cold. Had to send it back to re-heat, she got her’s back in a reasonable time frame. Her boyfriend ordered Joe’s surf and turf burger. It is supposed to come with shrimp on top and he had one! Complained but the waiter, Will, really didn’t seem too concerned. After all our other issues, we just ate what we had! As for tea refills, that took awhile also! We have always went here when on vacation and last year had a bad experience and thought we would give it another try. Needless to say never going back!!!!
My husband and I went here this weekend for a peaceful date night for his birthday. We were told it was going to be an hour and a half before we got a table but we could sit at the bar… So we took the quicker option and sat at the bar. I pushed all the dirty dishes to the end and wiped our spot off… We were never handed a menu I just reached over and found one a Customer left and we started looking it over. After about 10 min the bartender took my drink order and my cup was covered in crab meat. Ok whatever I guess that won’t kill me but still a bit gross. I heard a waiter near me saying crab dip crab dip…. So I guess as long as your listening you get to claim what you ordered ?!?! It wasn’t hot at ALL so we got them to heat it up longer… The dip itself was ok but our chips were pretty stale. We ordered the steam pot for two and I had to ask for plates. The bartender gave me these little app plates… Ok I guess I didn’t say a big plate?? My husband ordered a beer before we got our appetizer but still had not received it by the time we got our food so I reminded the waitress. She had a very rude customer so I’m sure she was a bit thrown off but this shouldn’t be her excuse for forgetting everything we asked for. Then again I heard someone saying steam pot steam pot… So I said that’s us… Luckily I noticed our meal was missing shrimp and after reminding her twice we got those. I use to bartend so I know it can be difficult at times but she kept opening new tabs instead of taking care of the ones she already had open. Finally I asked for the check…. Again and again and again then she handed us the bill, swiped our card and never gave us the signed part…. If I was any normal person I would have just left with tipping since she obviously didn’t care too much to even give me the part to tip her…. But we left 15 bucks…way over 20%…. We will never go back based on the service. Food was ok but not worth the dirty cups and horrible service
