The ambiance was loud and pub-like, which I guess is what you should expect (probably not the best kid place though). The server was new, but attentive. Good list of irish and american draft beers, including some local craft ones. The food was amazing. Both the shepard’s pie and the bangers and mash were delicious. The brown gravy was mouthwatering.
This is the Real Deal, No Blarney. Okay. First things first. I’m Irish and also the author of an award-winning cookbook so I am not being insensitive when I say that going to an Irish Pub like Flanagan’s for the ‘cuisine’ is like going to Mardi Gras because of all the great ‘jewelry’ they hand out. Nope, folks go to Flanagan’s for the great atmosphere, the great company (even a stranger is welcomed), the great beer, and the great music. The food? It’s adequate and will surely stick to your ribs, but if it were served in any other setting it would be forgettable. But make no mistake, when the waitress sets that bowl of Irish stew, a plate of fish and chips, or the Blarney Burger with a side of gravy fries on your table, and the Guinness begins to flow, and the fellah with the guitar up front explains the ‘origin of this next song’, and the whole room bursts into a rousing rendition of ‘Whiskey in a Jar’ while some kid wanders in off the street and joins in with the pipes…well, then you know you’ve entered another realm where the work-a-day world falls to the floor like tattered rags and joy reigns triumphant. Oh, and the kids will love it, too.
POTATO SKINS!. Hands down best potato skins I’ve ever put into my mouth! At first I was surprised to see $8 potato skins… kinda pricey , right? Then the waiter comes out with 3 potatoes worth of skins, all chopped in half. They must have been deep fried then baked with the cheese and bacon … I literally have thought about them EVERY DAY since I had them a week ago! Oh, and Noel is a super awesome entertainer and he makes sure everyone is having a good time ! My new place to drink 🙂
