Service. Terrible service. Two separate occasions we waited forever to place our order. No one else in the place so it wasn’t because they were busy. Just not a priority for them. Today two customers walked out before I did. Too bad, it’s very attractive and appears to be clean .

So sad, so bad!. Have been going here for lunch, at this location, since it opened and used to be a favorite at least a couple times a week, I have given it so many chances since the change of ownership, as have many of my friends… Sadly, today was absolutely the last. The quality of food, the ridiculous amount of time it takes to receive your meal even if the place is near empty and lastly the lack of adequate management indicates a downhill spiral. The only thing worthy here is the bread/pastries. period. THE ONE CONSOLATION IS THE DEERWOOD LOCATION IS STILL FABULOUS!

Jan. 11, 2014Today I ate at the Village Bread Cafe’ on Phillips Hwy. I at heard good things from everyone about the food being very good. Well it was not so for me! I truly feel they do not like Black people. My order was wrong. I ordered the Cinnamon Raisin French Toast. What arrived was Pecan Raisin French Toast with very over cooked, almost burnt Apple Bacon. When talked to the order person about the mistake, explaining that I do not do nuts. She politely stated that it comes that way because the bread has nuts in it. I explained that that was not the case, again she told me that I was wrong. I had taken the menu up with me and pointed to the French Toast options. Listed right below the Pecan Raisin French Toast was the requested Cinnamon Raisin French Toast. Then she asked if I would still except the Pecan Raisin French Toast as my meal. I again stated that I do not do nuts. Not stating that the reason was that I am allergic to them, thinking that my simple reason should have been enough. She then looked behind her (I think maybe they were out of Cinnamon Raisin Bread) at the breads on the shelves. Then stated that my request was no longer an option and that would I please pick something else. The only other option without nut was regular French Toast. This option made the cost $2.00 less than the original meal. I was not offered the refund difference for my meal. I returned to my seat and shortly later my replacement regular French Toast arrived. I found that I could have made better at home. The whole meal was a huge disappointment! I know what you are thinking! I was alone, clean, well mannered, simply dressed Black female. And I was the only Black person that was there. I had noticed as I watched the customers around me were very much enjoying themselves. I am a US Navy veteran, and have traveled alone around the world, as well have visited to 27 state, and china, England, Japan and Mexico. I have lived in 7 states, as well as China and England. So… It is sad to say that I know what intolerance looks and feel like.

Gross!! The French toast was mushy, hashbrowns were obviously instant and frozen. The coffee was awful and the overall experience was disappointing.

Decent, but overrated. I didn’t really have a problem with anything, but after reading the other reviews I think my expectations were not quite met. I had the Nova lox at about 9:45 am on Saturday. They were down to fewer than a dozen bagels to choose from, and it’s served all separate on a plate with two packets of cream cheese. One of the posts compared this place to the French pantry, but I don’t think it’s anywhere close.

I have eaten at Village Bread more than a dozen times and I’ve enjoyed the food about 50% of the time. I don’t think I’ll be eating here again because the food is so inconsistent.

Nice urban diner with a twist. Great bread, breakfasts and sandwiches that will keep you coming back.
