I should have ordered a Burger and I should have listened to the server, I will learn one day in the future.Pulled up just seconds before the sky opened up last Sunday. We had been at the house and about to cook brunch when we ran out of gas in our propane tank (she had been telling me to check it), we were now desperate, so we loaded up the car and headed out before the storm. We pulled up in front of Metro Deli and discussed if we were really going to go in or not, but the sky was starting to unload, so if we went somewhere else it would be too late, and the storm would have been in full swing, so we jumped out of the car and ran into the restaurant. We walk in and see a server who does not say anything to us, so I asked Do we just sit anywhere? and she replied Sit where you like, menus are on the table, order at the window, and gestured to the back corner of the room.We looked over the menu and decided on what we wanted, but found it amusing that several of the menu items were listed twice (not much on the attention to detail), and made our way to the window we were told to seek out. We ordered our food easily enough, and my wife asked for water to drink, and they gave it to her, I asked for unsweet tea, which they did not have, ok, Diet Coke? Grab it from the cooler under there sweetheart, I was told. OK, not a traditional restaurant, but no big deal. We paid and then we went back to our seats. The food came out fast enough, but she forgot the corn we ordered and went to get it, but showed back up when we were pretty much done with the meal, with the corn in hand. We accepted it since we had already paid for it at the window. My meal came out inside a paper bag, which she tossed onto the table from a couple of feet away-strange. We already have a restaurant that throws food at you in Foley, AL.I should have ordered a burger since this place is more of a BBQ and burgers type of place. I am sure that I would have been at least a little happier with the meal. I ordered a fish sandwich instead. It turned out to be a F-sandwich since the ish was missing. Look at my pictures, you can not even see the fish under the lettuce, and it was pretty fishy so I guess that it turned out to be lucky for me that the fish was so small.I should have listened to the server, since when I was ordering my meal I ordered fries, and she quickly said your sandwich comes with our really good house chips, and I now know that she was trying to talk my out of the fries, but I did not catch on. The fries came out really hot but overcooked and soggy. I lifted one to show my wife how soggy they were and grease dripped off of it onto my F-sandwich.My wife’s food was almost equally disappointing, but she did like the pulled pork on her BBQ baked potato, but she commented on the fact that the bell pepper and onions on her meal were all raw, and did not understand why they were not cooked down. She also had a plank of unmelted cheese on top of her potato, why not shred it and put it under the broiler?Lastly the sides, the jalapeno potato salad was the highlight of the meal, it was pretty good, but the Conecuh Sausage Corn was corn from a can or frozen bag with raw bell pepper and raw onion tossed in with some cubed Conecuh sausage.Look, I want good restaurants at the beach, and I want them to be successful, but success comes to those that deserve it, and this restaurant has a long way to go. If you want to own a proper restaurant, you have to at least try. Just because you can open a restaurant does not mean that you should. Canned corn, raw pepper and onion, and pieces of fish that are nonexistent will not cut it for long, not to mention the frankin-fries, that were long dead, and like Frankenstein’s Monster, should not have been brought back to life.-B-
New deli open next door to The Break Beach Bar. The fries are homemade and fresh! They also make their own chips. The French dip is delicious!! They have a nice selection of deli sandwiches and BBQ! I’m not sure what’s on the breakfast menu but I know they make their own donuts! I believe that they cater as well.
