Down home country cooking in a down south environment. Feels like Gula Grub in St Helena Island. There were four of us sharing and our selection were across the board. A bit out of town, the place was perfect and the food even betterAI Chillin chilltravelers.com
Based on 5 visits: my family found some food to be very good, while some items were just okay. Items can be pricey, (even overpriced like 3-4 pcs of fried chicken and biscuit for $20). It is not fine dining but is fine dining prices for most entrees. Atmosphere is very casual, but clean and neat. Dining room can be noisy due to concrete floors/echoes so we often sit on patio and it could use some sprucing up (flowers, etc). Decor focuses on items for sale (cookbooks, sauces, etc). Lunch prices are more appropriate for carry out BBQ; staff was always friendly and drink selections were tasty. One one visit, we encountered the owner standing outside and stopped to say hello and discuss his smoker out front, and he blew us off, turned away, was not interested in talking, but we thought he was just having a bad day. However, after placing a review similar to the one above on another food site, the owner replied to me in a very defensive, rude tone and challenged me to provide proof to him of the cost, quantity, quality and number of seats of other local restaurants and prove to him that my opinion is right. To be successful long term, you have to be willing to accept constructive criticism. I have always recommended folks try it as the BBQ is some of the better around (even if on the pricier side), however after this, and after I read some other replies he made to customers (he actually cussed in some replies– not cool), I can’t recommend it. This is poor customer service and shows a lack of professionalism that frankly, surprised me. There are many other places in town who are polite, even if they disagree with the customer’s opinion.
