So, I ordered an Italian beef sanswich, fries and drink. I paid $11.00! Which I wouldnt have mind if the sandwich was bigger and tastier. The employees operate in fear as they prepare your food. I asked for gardinera peppers and recieved a tiny portion. I will not go back to eat an overpriced sandwich. Nothing close to a Chicago style Italian beef.
Call First. Everyone has covered the basics, except for this: HDH closes for vacation once a year (can’t remember if it’s always the same month, or if it varies), so CALL FIRST if you are traveling a distance.

If you want a really good Chicago Style Restaurant. By the way, if you want a really good Chicago Style Italian Beef sandwich go to Taste of Chicago in Margate on SR 7, just north of Coconut Creek Parkway. I’ve eaten at every Chicago style restaurant and this is the best, so far. There beef is wonderful, lean and juicy and you can have it wet, dunked…however you want it. Their hot dogs are great too. Everything is nice and fresh. If you want a good Gyro Sandwich, you can get that too. They have Maxwell style Polish sausage sandwiches and several other items on the menu. Its very small, you are definitely not going there for the ambience but the food is worth it. The only criticism is that the owner is not a people person. I’ve been there 10-12 times and I think I only saw the owner smile twice. I think he could get even more business if he smiled and spoke to the customers more. It surprises me, usually people from Chicago are very friendly and talkative. I am from Chicago :)17 Mar, 2008What happened to Hot Dog Heaven??. When I worked at Peaches (remember them?) ions ago, I ate at Hot Dog Heaven at least once a week, either the hot dog or Italian Beef sandwich. It was always packed. The people that worked there were great, lots of fun, the people seemed like they loved working there. The food was always good. The beef always great, lean and juicy. I went there a few weeks ago, for the first time in a really long time. I ordered the beef sandwich. When I saw them take the meat out of the fridge and zap it in the microwave, I knew I was in trouble. It was horrible. It didn’t taste remotely like a Chicago Italian Beef sandwich. You are supposed to have au jus to dip the sandwich in (I like mine dunked). The meat was tough, dry and fatty. And the bread was dry. The staff didn’t seem like they knew what they were doing, either. I gather the old owners sold the business to someone that has never eaten Chicago style food. Otherwise they could never serve that food. Yuck.
