This place is great!!!! The food was outstanding and the staff was friendly and very welcoming!! Felt like family!!!
Never Again. Attn: There are no refills on beverages. I didn’t know that and ended up with an additional $5 for iced tea which the staff rang up as lemonade. I declined the offer of a piece of baklava only to have one brought out to me anyway. I ate it thinking it was complementary. No, it wasn’t. Menu is also slightly out of date regarding prices. I don’t recommend going there (with or without a Groupon), but if you do, ask the price of everything or you’ll be as surprised as I was at my bill.
Food great / Service poor / Expensive. Let me start out by saying that the food was delicious. The wait staff was extremely friendly but very slow (dinner took 2 1/2 hours) and (probably due to language difficulties) misleading. We had an appetizer of hummus and tabouli. We were informed that it was $6. We waited a long time and finally received dinner platters of grape leaves and shwarma, which as I said before, was delicious. We each had two ice teas nothing special about them just plain tea. We were going to forgo dessert but was pushed hard to try some so we picked two that were appealing and repeatedly told the waiter that we did not want baklava. The dessert plate was brought and it included the baklava. We were told try it you will like it. I did not but my dinner companion did. Then came the sticker shock with the bill. We were charged $10 for 4 glasses of plain ice tea… $2.75 for each of the three desserts including the baklava, ($8.25 total) and were surprised to find out that the appetizer of hummus, tabouli, and pita were charged separately for each item. So if you go be sure to not be surprised.
Horrible: Got ripped off by staff!!!. My mom and I went there because we had a groupon. We both are really petite so we dont need a big meal to fill us up however, at this restaurant, all the portions are very small. I ordered the kibbi platter and my mom ordered the shawarma platter are even though the flavors were decent, the portions were really small. We also ordered the lamb chops: the portions were also small and the meat was really chewy. On top of everything, the final bill had 3 extra items they charged us for that we never ordered or consumed. We argued with the three guys but in the end we had to walk out without being reimbursed since they pretended they didnt know what we were talking about (all of a sudden, they started not understanding spoken english). all in all, it was a horrible experience
Food was good but it was very dirty and cluttered. You can see in to the kitchen and it was a mess and there were jars that was opened with the lids open. When will restaurants get that when it’s dirty in the front it makes us very nervous to what’s going on in the back.
Poor Quality, Poor Taste, Not Returning. Being a big fan of middle-eastern/Mediterranean cuisine, I noticed this place driving by a few times on Federal. I was craving a Shewarma, and some falafel yesterday, so that’s what I purchased. HORRIBLE!!! This wasn’t Shewarma at all! It was processed, pre-cooked chicken breast (they sell at Publix) with some spices on it. It was dry, and flavorless. They charged me $3.99 for 4 falafel balls, which by normal standards should be a good deal. The size of the falafel balls was about the size of a nickle. It was dead, not a single customer, and therefore leads me to believe that their food is not fresh, or rotated regularly, and the place is not the cleanest. For a much better middle-eastern experience, and far superior food, try Ferdo’s Grill, just down the street, a few shops south on Federal.
Pita Cafe, Fort Lauderdale. I’m very sorry my review is the only negative one. Today I went to pita cafe craving a falafel delight sandwich that I love so much. To my dissapointment, the owner was handling food with the same hand that he handled the money; he did not have a working credit card reader (luckily I had cash) and he gave me the wrong order. This was total dissapointment. I wanted to try the vegetable soup, which tasted like a vegetable canned soup with tabasco sauce and chopped potatoes with the pealing on it, yak! who would serve soup with potatoes not pealed properly. Definately, I would never go back!
