Against my better judgment, I took my family for lunch. The last time we came, there was shredded metal scrubber cooked into our food. I saw from other comments that this has happened to other people as well. This time, there was only one other couple eating besides us and we waited over 15 minutes for service. When we tried to place our order, a young, snappy, very rude waitress came out and spoke over our waitress and declared that lunch was over. It was before 3 when we arrived and it was now 3:10. When I tried to explain (in English since I am not fluent in Spanish) both women rolled their eyes and walked away in a huff complaining loudly in Spanish and left us there at our table. The other couple looked at them and back at us with their mouth open like someone had just been insulted. I was thinking about leaving and should have but was so hungry that we stayed. We placed our orders (didn’t get lunch of course) and it took forever to come out. When our food did arrive, the portions were small, it had gotten cold, and was sitting in puddles of grease. The meat filling in my empanada tasted old and soured. We ate what we could and left the rest. My daughter got sick and threw up an hour after we left from the burger she ate. This is our last visit. The service is terribly rude, the food is dangerously poor quality, and the portions are small. This is sad because I’ve been coming for years. The service was always friendly, the food was hot and the prices reasonable. It seems that a new owner or manager took over when the tiny cafe was remodeled because it was never the same again. Rest in peace El Pilon. You were great once but not anymore.

Here is my 2 cents on the food and some chit chat combine. This is puerto rican cuisine. You must try this place. Service is extraordinary – food is outstanding. The meal I had… a cup of espresso, pepsi, roast pork, black beans, & peas and yellow rice. All under 11.50. WOW the roast pork was to die for. It was moist, tender and seasoned just right. No need for a knife. The yellow rice and peas beautiful for the eyes and the tongue.. Black bean cooked to perfection. My espresso hot and strong. The service was great . My server check back 3 times . Wanted to know if it was all good. Plus if there was anything more she could get for me. Only in a much pricier restaurant that I have had such Outstanding customer service. That why this place deserves my 5 Stars. It is a bit divey but I go for the food. This has to have been one of the best meals I have had in SWFL.

Terrible food, terrible service. We get some kind of sandwich with pork meat which was not edible so we ask the waiter if she can change it.What a surprise she said no and you have to pay for it (just like this). It was bad smelling and definitely not fresh.Anyway we didn’t pay for the meal which we didn’t eat and we left there money just for the drink.I guess the personal are cuban people and they have no idea what Porto Rico is.
