By far the best sushi in Gainesville! I have searched every chain and mom ‘n’ pop shop and this is it! It’s always fresh and perfectly rolled. Also, my boyfriend loves their hibachi!

So far, this is my favorite sushi place in Gainesville. However, take this opinion with a grain of salt… there are not too many sushi places in Gainesville (despite it being first and foremost a college town). Mahzu’s merits include prices on the lower end (still, not cheap) and a great variety and unique ingredients used for its rolls. The service is very prompt and food comes out relatively quickly (always a plus for a sushi place, I think). House wine and sake is decent and very cheap. My husband and I ordered three rolls which were the Volcano Roll, Lobster Mango Roll and Spicy Girl Roll. The Volcano roll, which had a California roll as its base with baked octopus and other fish on top, was by far their best. The other two rolls, while not terrible, we wouldn’t recommend. We would come back for the service, good pricing and rolls similar to the Volcano. I would recommend this place to someone who likes sushi and is over the Dragonfly hype.

Amazing sushi! The fish is very fresh and the rolls are huge! There is very little rice so you get your moneys worth in fish. The service was good and the sushi came out fast. The dreamy roll was amazing and so was the Mexican. Will be back.

There was mayonnaise and some sort of pasty pink stuff in or on top of 3 different specialty rolls and the mussels appetizer. This was an unpleasant meal.

Recently moved to Gainesville and was looking for a great local sushi restaurant and was pleasantly surprised! Sushi is fresh and great. Large rolls and stuffed very well. The only thing that I was extremely disappointed in was in their highly processed chicken. We also ordered teriyaki chicken, but the meat had an unusual afertaste that made the meal impossible to finish. I will say that I am very sensitive to taste, so I am easily turned off to certain processed foods. Besides that, the shrimp and actual teriyaki sauce was excellent. We will definitely return but order seafood items only. Side note: the sushi menu doesn’t include descriptions of common rolls (ie. California, NY, shrimp tempura) but will include descriptions for specialty rolls. If you’re really unfamiliar with common roll contents, it’s an easy lookup or you can ask.

Tips. Waiters don’t get tIpped. Talked to one today and was disappointed to hear that. That’s unacceptable for a restaurant and downright wrong.

The best sushi in gainesville!. Everything is super fresh, they are very friendly and speak English very well. Very good sized portions, affordable and so delicious!! I’ve been searching for my go to place and this is it. The fish is amazing quality!
