Meh – very southern (greasy & processed tasting). Had the crispy pork shank – the first 8 bites were amazing, but the portion was huge and the rest went home (aka in a to-go box that sat in the car for 5 hours while I ran errands then went directly into the trash at home). The fried green tomatoes, were greasy with not much seasoning, could have been crispier, and the ranch-bacon sauce was overkill on the grease and heavy flavors. The zucchini casserole was like a tasteless-processed food-uncrispy-mushy mess, though it was made from scratch, hmm, unfortunate. Some simple al dente olive oil-salt-pepper roast or grilled zucchini or asparagus would have been better. Maybe this food is too southern for my tastes. I like simple, balanced, and fresh foods that aren’t too heavy. 🙂
Tried this place for the first time last night. The watermelon margarita and the blackened kingfish were great but very small portions for being so expensive.
The night was a bust. Came for birthday celebration. Ordered drinks and appetizer to start. Finished appetizers and no drinks. Server said bartender was busy. Ordered salad to go before meal. It came with meal. Not a good night. Main course was good. Lots of apologies but still ruinedNight.
Go here!. Excellent food, drinks and service. The menu has something for everyone, from old southern standbys to novel dishes. For aps, I love the fried pickles, boiled peanuts, fried okra and the scotch egg is delicious and something I’ve never seen on a menu before. The Blue Gill burger is one of my favorite burgers at any restaurant. Normally I don’t order dessert but every time I’m here I get the banana bread with the bourbon infused mousse. The drink menu has some great brews on tap as well as classic cocktails that all have a new twist. Parking in the garage is free after 4:30 and parking on SW 16th is always free.
Marginal. Falls short of being an excellent restaurant. The burger tasted like it was cooked in stale grease, the peanuts were too soft and did not have enough salt, and the pork sandwich was pedestrian. The oxtail was good but it must have been pre-cooked and not warmed properly as the center was cold. The calamari was great and the service was good.
This is the best southern restaurant I’ve ever been too. A little empty on a 8:30 Wednesday night. A few big groups came in after us. Nice big friendly bar with huge donor area. Open air, lots of Florida love. Perfect, unmatchable flavorful food. Top shelf for a decent process. I got pork belly and huge slab w/ butterbeans that was $14. The burger is killer, also try the very flavorful charcuterie. Killer stuff. Can’t wait to learn more about this place. Forget sonnys, goodbye cracker barrel.
Loved it!. I love this place. It is so nice to enjoy a a dish that gets it flavor from fresh, organic, meats and vegetables- rather than layers of salt, ranch and bacon. It does take too long to get a drink from the bar and the happy hour could be a little better than 1$ off. The food is awesome. I love the pork shoulder and the burger is the best in town. I think too many of these reviews here are too used to fast food and chain restaurants. Come here when you want to enjoy a slower meal with flavor that comes from a skilled chef using quality ingredients.
