I love Chuys because its not Mexican food. It is Tex-Mex and most people haven’t had true TEX MEX. The star of most dishes are green chiles. These are known as HATCH GREEN CHILES. Unless you travelled west between Texas and Arizona you haven’t eaten green chiles, most likely poblanos or Anaheim. They have a unique flavor that causes cravings and nothing else satisfies. When they have their green chile festival (Aug Thru Sept) I dine there way too much. Their specials truly shine and a few standard dishes that are consistant like the Chika chika Chicken enchiladas. It is good food. I have not been disappointed the times I have dined there.
Very average…. After reading some reviews before heading out for some Mexican food and cold beer while In Gainesville for business, I decided to give Chuy’s a try.I got a combo platter which had a little of everything but it was hard to say that anything stood out as memorable. It was a good-sized portion and the tortilla chips were tasty. The Modelo Especials beer was ice-cold which was good. The service was ‘average to good’ – nothing particularly bad just nothing really good – all about average.
Not good at all, I could list all the reasons but I will just say if you want good food don’t go. The atmosphere and service was good but not the food. I won’t go back.
Fantastic clean atmosphere. Queso dip was some of the best I have had in long time. Menu states salsa is made every hour and tasted every bit fresh and delicious. Chicken cheese rellinos were good however chicken could use some seasoning. Would definitely go back again.
Terrible. I adore Mexican,Tex-Mex food..I am not picky, and hard to dissapoint. I went there Saturday with my boyfriend. Salsa was bad..tasted sour, and had an enormous amount of (vinegar)? in it. He ordered the Chimichanga..which tasted of nothing but fryer oil. I had a chicken enchilada and chili releno..both of which had zero flavor or seasonings. The reason I love Mexican/Tex-Mex is because of all the awesome flavors, the spices, how fresh it USUALLY tastes..but this was awful. An absolute no-go,we will never return.
I grew up in the Southwest and the food here is the closest I’ve had since moving to Florida. I was so excited to see they make their chile relleno with Hatch green chiles. They are not traditionally made with Poblanos, which seems to be what everyone uses in the South as a substitute. Everything we tried was made fresh and full of flavor. They even made the tortillas right in the restaurant! Also, give the Sopapillas and honey a try for dessert. Another Southwest specialty that was fantastic!
A must if you live in Gainesville or even if you are just visiting. We bring all of our friends and family here when they visit. Food is great, service is fast and friendly, and the decor gives it a fun vibe.
