Carol and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary at Embers Wood Grill. It was our first visit. We started with bread offered table-side: cheese, salt or garlic, along with a cup of a thick, enjoyable spread. Carol had a cup of Gulf of Mexico blue crab bisque, and a filet mignon steak with sides of grilled local zucchini and squash, and sauteed wild mushrooms. I had a fire-grilled caesar salad, and a New York strip steak with sides of spicy prosciutto and cheddar grits, and mac and four cheeses with truffle oil. We split a Belgian chocolate torte for desert. The steaks were cooked exactly as we asked, and each item was excellent. Couples were offered a side room that was quieter than the main dining room. A nicely set table for two suited the occasion well. The room had medium lighting and unobtrusive-but-appropriate music centered around jazz. Our server, Randy, was pleasant, helpful and prompt. His service and that of all others was top-notch. Everything about our anniversary dinner was just right.Update: Carol and I celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary at Embers Wood Grill in Gainesville, Florida, Oct. 18, 2017. This was our third anniversary in a row at Embers. Every bit of the dinner from soup and salad to desert was excellent. While many others were at the restaurant, a table for two left us enough space to feel that we were by ourselves. The bar made Carol a nonalcoholic blackberry daiquiri. She enjoyed it. I gave it a try and found it good too. Before our dinner choices arrived, a waiter with a tray offered slices of three types of bread: cheese, salt and garlic. We both got one of each. A nicely seasoned herb butter was placed on the table. Carol started with Gulf of Mexico blue crab bisque. I had fire-grilled Caesar salad. Carols main course was a 6 ounce filet mignon, grilled local zucchini and squash, and sauteed wild mushrooms. Mine was a 12 ounce New York strip steak, mac and four cheeses with truffle oil, and spicy prosciutto and cheddar grits. The entrees include two side dishes. For desert, we shared cinnamon-spiced beignets. They are described as cinnamon-and-sugar-dusted, warm beignets with lemon mascarpone and Mayan chocolate sauce. We chose the beignets after helpful explanation from our waiter. He provided details about each element of the desert, which convinced us to give it a try. We were glad we did. The chocolate sauce, in which the beignets could be dipped, was the best I have tasted. Each of our three anniversary dinners at Embers has been at this top level, which keeps bringing Carol and me back.
This is a top notch restaurant and always serves great food. Either Sparks or Embers are great places and the atmosphere at both is very nice. Sparks is a more lively, because it’s the bar side, and it can be busier there. If you want a quiet, romantic dinner, then Embers is the place. Service is great and food is quite good. Lots of choices, too. I eat something different every time, and it’s always very good. The filet is yummy! It’s a little pricey, but worth it for a special night out.
Crab bisque is amazing, the wine selection is fabulous, and the bone in ribeye is one of the best steaks I’ve ever had… And I was raised on Berns steak house. Skip marks and come here! Yum!
The service was impeccable and the food cooked to perfection. The grouper was delicious and moist, and the lobster mashed potatoes had nice pieces of lobster. I would recommend this restaurant highly.
We always enjoy Embers. The best steak in Gainesville. I also love the lamb and crab bisque. I wish they had a wider selection of veggies (need more green) but that is a tiny complaint. Have been here 4 times and never had anything but the best service.
My boyfriend and I LOVE embers! The best steak in town, not to mention the crab bisque. Sooo amazing! This is definitely a go to in Gainesville!
The steak was amazing. I’ve had prime steaks at several restaurants and I can honestly say they did a great job. The crab bisque was tasty and the bread is delicious. Highly recommend!
