Wonderful little place. Most of the staff are Hispanic and so are the customers. A good sign that they know what they are doing! I always order the Arroz a la Cubana. It’s eggs to order, generaous portion of rice (has great flavor) and soft plantains. Always consistent quality and very pleasant staff. I also love the Cafe con Leche with sugar. Very reasonably priced and wonderful flavor. The venue in Alachua is the same….wonderful. Prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend this place. They also serve a lot of dishes with arepas, a thick cornmeal tortilla. I like the taste, but they are a little heavy for my taste. Don’t let this turn you off. The place is good.
During the hurricane I had more family than expected come into my home to evacuate. Since I knew mi apa was open I decided to get food from there so I could cater to my family for dinner and the next few days. After waiting one hour in the drive thru line I decided to give them aCall and just see how much longer the wait would be. They told me 45-60 more minutes. I was ok with that bc the food is delicious and I had familyTo cater to. After waiting ANOTHER hour andTen minutes we were finally one car away from ordering when an employee came out to notify us they would no longer be taking anymore orders and were cutting the drive thru line OFF! I was shocked, so mad, but more importantly disappointed in their customer service. To have customers wait that long and supply them with NOTHING left a bad taste in my mouth. It would have been one thing if they would have given me a heads up when I called after waiting an hour, but they didn’t. They just left myself and many other customers disappointed and hungry. To make matters worse I haven’t seen one apology from the restaurant posted anywhere and its been almost a week. I wanted to give the owner time to apologize before writing a review, but it seems turning away over 20 customers didn’t affect him that much.
I am not a fan of Mi Apa. I think their food is ok and I would only eat there as a matter of convenience or if every one of my friends out voted me and we HAD to eat there. For their genre of food, I think they could do better. Also, yes I am glad their staff can speak Spanish but they always seem a bit pretentious considering they are serving food on foam plates.
