Yum! Had to wait a looooong time for food during busy lunch on Saturday. Had el tipico, yello rice with pigeon peas, roast pork, and a pastel, which is some kind of delicious stuff in a banana leaf. Obviously, I’m not well versed in Puerto Rican food, but I know what’s good, and it was.
Attention Management. I attended this restaurant for the first time . Here is my observations:1- Decor needs an upgrade. It was boring2-cook needs to change the oil. Alcapurrias was burn and had a nasty oil taste3 steak was overcooked. It came with 3 little onions(cheap, wow4- coffe was good5-arroz con gandules was excellent.
Very good, authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. Don’t miss their lechon asado. The roast pork is crisp on the outside and tender shreds inside; their red beans (habichuelas) are seasoned perfectly. I couldn’t resist dipping my pork into the beans then alternately tasting the fluffy white rice and sweet plantains. This is a keeper!
Best Neighborhood Latin Food. With a shortage of cuban and other latin restaurants in this area, I was pleased to find Isla Del Coqui. Alcapurrias (fried goodies stuffed with meat) and Mofongo (mashed garlicky plantains) were great. Arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas) is also yummy. The pasteles were interesting. Overall, great atmosphere, friendly owners and servers, and interesting yummy food will bring me back.
Isla del coqui is a puertorrican restaurant. 🙂
