Ah-may-zing. Everything is so fresh. Ask them where the ingredients are from, they can tell you where they were farmed and when they were brought in. The best tomatoes I’ve ever tasted. Not acidic, not salty, not too sweet. Very relaxed atmosphere. Great produce, as I mentioned. Quality meat. Servers are helpful and knowledgeable. The bread was crusty and salty and rustic and served with the perfect light olive oil and pesto. The menu is brief but has something for everyone. My husband said the bolognese was the best he’d ever had. The pasta even looked beautiful. The eggplant was crisp and vibrant and not at all overpowered by the beautiful tomatoes. Definitely the best I’ve had. They have a bar for cocktails and a wine list that offers perfect accompaniments. I coveted every diners’ order as it came out. The special steak and swordfish looked amazing. The dessert list definitely had something (or several somethings) for everyone. Definitely a favorite. Definitely will be back whenever we visit the area. I love how laid back everything and everyone was – no insisting they’re the best, instead they’ll just show you.

Food was mostly good. Service was ok. Setting at picnic tables, with very hard benches, under a leaky grass roof with plastic curtains is not my idea of fine dining. Wait staff must have been tired, when not waiting on customers they stood in a group yawning.

Don’t order the calamari. We took our dear friends and her 99 yr old mother to Pia’s last week for dinner. I ordered the calamari as an appitizer and it wasn’t anything I expected. It was two large pieces not rings, not breaded or sauted. I cut a slice and it was like chewing a rubber band, my friend tried a slice and agreed. I told the waiter Scott to take the dish and he didn’t ask why, just took it away. I also ordered an Absolut on the rocks, they only have a Russian something I had not heard of or Van Gogh, I settled on the Van Gogh and asked if they have Bleu Cheese stuffed olives, Scott said gorgonzola, which I said was fine. However, Scott failed to mention a $2 surcharge for the olives. I have never experienced this anywhere in this country. When we return to visit our friends in St. Pete we will NOT be returning to Pia’s even though the food was fine.

This place is great. I mean really good food. Sure, the wait may be a bit because everyone else is trying to eat their food as well. Or maybe a server may not get to you fast enough. It is a resaurant and sometimes things like that happen. You’re looking for a place to eat good food and on that they always deliver. I get tired of reading reviews in which the major complaint is that on the busiest day ever some server isn’t quiet fast enough with a refill. This restaurant serves really fantastic Italian food. Take your time, spend a couple extra dollars for the good stuff and just enjoy it.

Had a delicious gluten free meal tonight. The pasta needed a little more sauce which the server did bring to me, however, then they charged $2.00 on top of the $19.00 for the dinner. I felt this was a kitchen error and not something that should have been passed on to the customer. The server was willing to deduct it, but I felt let them have their $2.00. I will return as I liked the atmosphere and service and food. The restaurant should not have charged the surcharge on a $19.00 entree.
