Officially been served. Can you spend the night at Le Mridien without staying there? Sure! The lobby presents plenty of opportunities to do just that. You can order lavender macaroons at the petite bistro and a side of caf au lait to get rid of the smell of booze you just coincidentally acquired at the bar. The Longitude Bars lavished cocktails are a great temptation. No, the prices are not cheap, but the experience of the place makes them worthwhile. Try the Vieux Carre. Not a Shirley Temple. A concoction of rye whiskey and Benedictine that smells better than some, rather expensive perfumes, you have given an ex for Valentines in a failed attempt to get them back. A drink to be savored slowly unless your intentions are to end up dancing on tables by the end of the night. The Not your Fathers Old Fashioned is good, but actually might just be a left over from one of your fathers because, although quite nice, is not creatively fabulous. However, you can never go wrong with an Old Fashioned. If you are into girlie (I can foresee the avalanche of hate mail from feminist here, even when I am one myself) drinks or fruity drinks, you might enjoy the Bizou Bramble. A lovely cocktail of Flor de Caa rum, blackberry infused syrup and lemon. Personally, it would take me about ten of those to get my booze on, and by then, I most likely be washing dishes in the kitchen to pay for the bill… but if you dont want to scare your first date, you might just order one because it is classy and unalcoholic like. Bizou Brasserie, the restaurant, redefines fabulous. I have taken pictures of the place and believe it haunted. The photos, even when unedited, always come out in sepia. Some trick of the lighting and the marble on the walls… pure magic. Bizou cooks the best duck in Tampa, in my very humble and gastronomically uneducated opinion. When I dont ask for it, I harass someone else in the table to order it and then pout and annoy him or her into sharing it with me. The duck is pan seared and served with the celery root puree (but I always trade it for the cauliflower hash) and a citrus sauce. My favorite part are also the beluga lentils they garnish the plate with. More please. I have tasted the Pancetta Wrapped Monkfish and it was good. Not great because I learned to eat monkfish in Oviedo and the freshness and saltiness is completely different. The fish is quite savory nevertheless. If you choose to wander into the adventure of monkfish and you just dont know what it looks like or you no longer remember… do yourself a favor and do not google pictures. Dont be judgmental. Think of other unpleasantly looking things that are edible and enjoyable. As appetizers, Bizou serves an amazing beef tartare. They use filet mignon, capers, cornichons (baby pickles), artichokes and an alioli. The deviled eggs are also a treat. They are filled with crab meat and portioned to share. The escargots are cooked inside a puff pastry. A great way to try them if you have been afraid of ordering them otherwise. The building exudes elegance and refinement and the dishes and libations complement it. If it is a bit expensive to binge at, it is still a wonderful place to sit and sip coffee at. It is after all an old court house remodeled. One of the few times in which you can celebrate the feared: you have officially been served.
Meh. We were seated on time with our reservation but after waiting an hour for our entrees, came close to canceling and leaving because we had a show to attend that we were about to miss, however, we were hungry and needed to eat. We barely got an apology from management but it was explained to us that the kitchen staff was short because the restaurant was taken over by new management which had cracked down on illegals working in the kitchen. Um ok….what ever it takes to run your business is your business but we just want our dinner. Our food came and it my roasted chicken was dried out and flavorless. The food was meh, the service was worse than meh and the management failed to rectify our bad experience so we clearly have no plans of returning. There’s far too many restaurants in Tampa to have to put up with this.
Needs improvement. This re…. Needs improvement. This restaurant is beautiful in looks & I had a nice experience at bar while waiting for the rest of our party to arrive, but from then on the experience went downhill, particularly due to poor service. When we sat down, a good 5-10 minutes went by with no server coming to our table to greet us, take drink offers, or bring menus. After getting up to ask the host for a server, one came over, but we were told they didn’t have enough menus for us (we had a group of 6). The 6 of us shared 2-3 menus, & the manager came over to let us know he would locate some more, yet we never received any more or heard anything further from him. Food was good, not outstanding, not bad, just good. Wine list was limited. Manager did send over champagne & dessert to make up for the experience, which was nice, but service should’ve been much better from the start. It’s a shame bc it’s such a pretty building & has such potential. Needs serious improvement if they want repeat customers.
Great experience!. This is a delightful french style reasturant with delicious food and great ambience. I loved the restoration they did to the old federal courthouse in downtown Tampa. The complementary valet parking, when you dine there, makes it convenient and is a plus. I ordered the special they were offering which was a well prepared fish of the day. It was phenomenal!! My husband ordered the Rack of Lamb and loved it! Our friends we were with ordered more classic dishes like their speciality Bizou burger with a unique flare and the said it their mouths they said. They have awesome specialty craft cocktails. The Vieux Carr is great. The staff was attentive and extremely friendly. Definitely a winner!
Disappointing experience. We were excited to experience what was to be another great addition to South Tampa’s French inspired menu left us feeling nothing but hungry, and disappointed! Our server really tried her best but the dishes looked lifeless, tasteless, and made without passion. I know Bizou has BIG shoes to fill considering we already have amazing French cuisine in Hyde Park, but I would of thought with the Millions of dollars put into the restaurant that they would of at least tasted there own food…apparently they did not! Good luck Bizou, the patrons of South Tampa have high expectations and unfortunately the four of us were very un satisfied.
Arguably the best duck I have ever had! Nice dinner with good friends.
