Great location. Service was prompt and food good. Not the best Thai I’ve had but acceptable. Weird tasting tea
Really great. This place has the best fried rice I’ve ever had. My friend also always gets their chicken pad thai and loves it. I’ve known a few people to have so-so experiences with other dishes, but the tofu fried rice is just amazing. Haven’t found a place in Tampa I like better.
Way too fish-saucy. I had their pad thai the other day. I don’t know if used more fish sauce in the recipe than most other Thai places I’ve been to, or if they used a particularly pungent variety, but the dish was heavy with that rank smell and taste that just doesn’t appeal to the Western palate. I’ve cooked with Squid brand fish sauce before, using recipes written by a Thai chef, and I’ve never had the smell and taste of the fish sauce outlast the cooking process. The chicken, although cooked thoroughly, seemed to concentrate the fishy taste.
First time…. This place is great. Well worth a 4 block walk from the courthouse.
It’s a sad day. I have eaten there many times in the past but it has seemed to get worse and worse with every visit! Today was the final straw, my Pad thai was horrible the noodles where so under cooked that I couldn’t even bite through them and when we informed the staff that it was under cooked he claimed that it was due to a problem with the manufacturer of the noodle and not that they where under cooked! On the plus side he didn’t charge use for our meal (after some haggling) its really a sad day since I work downtown and used to enjoy Sumo on a regular basis but something has changed and changed for the worse!
Another Downtown Favorite. I was a frequent Sumo’s connoisseur, because it was one of my favorite places to eat when I worked downtown. I was such a fan, I would take everyone I knew there at least once. I will admit, there were a few times that I was a little disappointed, but more times than not, Lawrence and the family really did aim to please. The menu is fairly simple and the basics are done very well. The spring rolls are crisp on the outside and well seasoned on the inside. The lemongrass soup is the perfect accoutrement to a cool, crisp autumn afternoon. The Panang Curry is just the right blend of sweet and savory, and the Peppered Garlic Crispy Tofu is still at the top of my list. My husband and I frequented Sumo’s so much, that I was fortunate enough to be able to order the glass noodle stir-fry, which is not on the menu – but definetly a family favorite. i do hope all is well with Lawrence and his crew – I really do miss our Friday early dinners :0)
I love this place! The menu is not complicated so the food cones out fast. The owners and their son are very hospitable. The crab rangoon is real crab with cream cheese and curry spices is delicious as well as their amazing peanut sauce! The prices are very reasonable with everything being under $12!
