I wanted to like you …. First off, this is not an Italian restaurant but rather an Argentinean / Italian restaurant. They are listed on Yelp under 3 different restaurant names so that should have tipped us off…The location is huge and the space has lots of untapped potential. (Huge windows face Hollywood Blvd, corner outdoor seating, and a large bar.) When we entered there was no hostess so we walked towards the bar (which offers a full selection of liquors, is very modern and has warm pendant lighting). Unfortunately we were seated across the room under a window with harsh green fluorescent lighting (you can see how green the light is in the food photos). Looking around I was optimistic as it was a Friday night and they were filling up with several tables of very large parties. Kussifay is trying to be elegant but there were a few missing touches we noticed right away: * Although we saw a huge speaker and elaborate sound system, the music that was playing was awful and the quality of the speaker was static filled. * Water glasses were dirty. Very dirty.* Menus are thickly laminated and filled with typos in both English and Spanish. They felt and looked like cheap cafeteria menus* Utensils are brought wrapped in single-ply cheap paper napkins. No additional napkins are provided on the table.* Ketchup is brought to you in individually packed plastic containers. Not sure why as we weren’t taking it to-go … Our server was friendly; spoke both English and Spanish and suggested a wine. We ordered a glass of wine and a Corona, a little disappointed in the limited selections for both beer and wine. The menu is written in both Spanish and English, but if you speak/read English only be warned that the descriptions are not all complete or accurate. We ordered sweetbreads, a Caesar salad, fried calamari and a lomito sandwich. The calamari was recommended by our server and was supposed to come with a ‘spicy tomato sauce’. It was frozen calamari and not very good at all. The sauce tasted bland and the fact that this was a dish they were recommending started to concern us. Next the Caesar salad arrived (see photo). It could be have been tossed with the dressing or at least given a little more love. It was another item that again was not terrible, but not special enough to enjoy or finish. Then our Sweetbreads and Sandwich arrived. The Sweetbreads were tender and grilled perfectly, but not seasoned at all so we asked for a side of chimmichuri or hot sauce. They said they had no chimmichuri which is bizarre for a restaurant serving Argentinean dishes. We were brought a bottle of Tabasco sauce without a cap which was so crusted and dried out that we had to take a photo of it (see gallery). The lomito sandwich was huge and the tastiest item we had. It came with fried which were heavily seasoned with chimmichuri (imagine that!) but no salt. They were also really soggy from all of the added oil. By this time we just felt sad for the owners and the kitchen. We asked for the check and passed on dessert. We’ve lived in Hollywood for years and have seen many restaurants come and go. Unfortunately, unless Kussifay tightens up their operation and decides whether they want to be casual or elegant, high end or a great lunch spot – I’m afraid they won’t last long. And please, wash those water glasses.
Simple neighborhood decor, excellent beef(perfectly brolied); superior pizza and down Home service. Will return to try out the pastas, which looked delicious! By the way, Argentinian customers abound!
House salad simple and delicious. The house salad lettuce, tomatoes, onions, avacado and grilled chicken breast. quick, simple, healthy delicious meal. ask for the house dressing (balsamic vinegar). see you at the table!!
