Very good, but a little pricey. This is a very casual place with lots of painted flamingos, pink paint, and rolls of paper towels dangling from the ceiling on hangers. You just have to see it for yourself. All of the staff were friendly and efficient. Based on the smiles on the servers’ faces, it seems as though this is a happy workplace. As a pretty good cook myself, seafood is not difficult to cook or season correctly, but I am often surprised as to how most restaurants over season and over cook it. Lulu’s does it right. All of the seafood we ordered from grouper and mahi mahi and salmon to shrimp were fantastic and cooked perfectly. However, the crab cake was only okay because it had a seasoning that tasted a bit like relish and had a somewhat mushy texture. Something a crab cake never needs. Just lump crab, a little mayo, a little dry mustard, and Old Bay are all that is needed for an authentic and delicious crab cake. I also ordered the fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes were cut a bit too thin, and the coating was bland and not original. The roumalaude sauce was very good. The sides for all of the other entrees were okay. Acceptable, but nothing exceptionally good. Skip the $3 margarita special. While tasty, I could not detect any alcohol in it. It’s usually best to stick with bottled beer in these places. I would return based on the excellent seafood and service. However, I felt that the prices were a bit high for the so-so sides and casual atmosphere.
Visited this place while we were on vacation in Indian Shores. The reviews were good, but the experience was quite different. Gordon Ramsey would have a heartattack seeing the filthy disorganized mess this place is. The beer was flat & they have the waitresses making salads right in the dining area. The kitchen staff is so inattentive that the cook wears sunglasses while prepping food. Kinda hard to see what u r cooking in dim light. Wouldn’t come back here or recommend.
Used to love this place. I posted a review right after Lulu’s opened…very positive and it became one of my favorite places as a local.I’ve been here many times and have noticed a drop in food quality lately…what happened???Last night (was not very crowded), I got the fried oyster app. I’m sad to say they were very greasy and flavorless. I got the blackened shrimp dinner and disappointingly, the shrimp were overcooked and slightly fishy smelling. On a positive note, service is still friendly and attentive.I hope that this is just a bump in the road because the last thing that we need here is another mediocre restaurant.13 Dec, 2014Was here again last night and again, very good. We had the same server, Mackenzie, and service was great. Blackened grouper was fresh and perfectly cooked. Dining partner got a very nicely done burger. The menu has been changed slightly, but I’m not sure how to post it since I uploaded the original version…anyhow, give this place a try.12 Nov, 2014Very fresh seafood. The fried grouper was perfectly cooked and super flaky. Oyster sampler…icy cold and delicious. Oysters rock-e-fella were again cooked perfectly with not too much spinach and hollandaise. Definitely also try the hush puppies.Service is friendly and attentive…Mackenzie, our server, was awesome.Had a very good time. We will be back.
Had grilled grouper, broccoli and fresh fruit. All was great. Finished with the orange layered cheesecake which was out of this world. Was large enough to split.
Beer Battered Fried Shrimp. Freshly peeled shrimp , quickly battered and fried hot & crispy
Good raw oysters. They had five different varieties and all were good. only nitpick is horseradish was bland. I may be alone in caring about that. nice beer selection. is on site of p.j.’s, which moved across the street
Good lunch. Burgers and fish sandwiches have all been great. Server was friendly. I’ll be back.
