About
We accidently discovered this gem during our recent trip to Miami. It was decided that we eat as much ethnic Cuban food as we could find during our short stay. The lady at the front desk in the hotel we were staying at recommended a new La Casita to us and we accepted her recommendation with skepticism. It sounded like a tourist trap, but the restaurant was on our way so we decided to stop by and take out Cuban sandwiches for lunch. The hostess was well mannered and very pleasant; all the tables were nicely set up and ready for guests. The whole atmosphere inside was so inviting, that we decided to eat there instead of take out. We followed our hostesss recommendation and ordered Media Noche (Cuban sandwich with Sweet bread). The staff kindly answered all questions about ingredients. I was tempted with Flan De Coco. It was heavenly good! We were so impressed with service, quality of food and the way it was served that we decided to return the same evening for dinner with group of friends and we were not sorry for that. The interior looked even more appealing in the evening. The way we were greeted and escorted to the prepared table created an impression that we were expected and very welcomed guests. The waiter was very pleasant, apologized for his poor English, but demonstrated exceptional manners. Other members of the staff assisted him with service which was prompt and not intrusive we were able to continue conversation at the table. The quality was definitely there! Who said that yucca is tasteless?! Mine had great aroma and tender to the taste; it was served with gently marinated onions. The Sweet Plantains was fried, but did not look greasy or overcooked and was delicious. I had Bistec a La Milanesa; it was big enough for two and prepared exactly as described breaded steak fried in extra virgin oil, topped with ham and melted mozzarella cheese. The Casita salad with hearts of palm was very fresh and colorful looking. For seafood lovers I would recommend Camarones Enchilados Servido (shrimp seasoned and pan sauted in Creole sauce, olive oil, tomatoes, bell pepper and white wine), Filete de Pescado Empanizado (snapper filet pan seared and cooked in garlic and white wine) or fried whole snapper. You definitely should order Sangria. I found one imperfection they used preserved fruits, not fresh as I would prefer (picky, picky me), but, in general, I found their recipe to be very good. Do not skip desert! This restaurant may be great for many occasions. I would specifically recommend it for quiet romantic date or dinner with friends. The noise level in this restaurant is low and you can carry on conversation without hearting your vocal cords. One more important comment is about prices. For that quality of food and level of service prices our bill was more than modest! We were looking for the best Cuban food in town and we found it! All our orders were prepared and served very well. I wish La Casita good luck in business and truly hope that the quality of food and service will remain the way we found it.
