This was our first trip to Fred’s and I thought it was great. No, it’s not a five-star restaurant with an international chef. However, the food was fresh, hot and good. For $15 you get unlimited food, including dessert. How can you beat that? I look forward to going back. Hopefully I’ll be even hungrier so I can try some different items. The chicken was wonderful as was the fried okra and cornbread. Yes, southern cooking.

The food on the serving line does seem to be fresh just badly prepared. Two of the three vegetable items I tried had a bad taste like they were cooked in soapy dishwater.Everything was overcooked. There is an unpleasant aroma in the dining room. It smells like rotting vegetables or a large collection of old trash. We like to travel and enjoy good restaurants. This is the worst we’ve encountered. I have never panned a restaurant and I hate doing it now but this one deserves a proper warning.

Fred’s Market Restaurant serves up a taste of farm to plate freshness, with food that is slowly cooked in a natural and unprocessed way. The restaurant aims to provide a cozy atmosphere full of warmth and fun. It’s southern comfort food that’s pure and hearty all the way to the core. The buffet for dinner is full of traditional southern fare like Fried Chicken, Pot Roast, Pulled Pork, Chicken Pot Pie and a host of sides like Mac & Cheese, Collard Greens, Mashed Potatoes, Fried Green Tomatoes, and of course an extensive salad and soup bar with a dessert bar as well. Freds also offers a weekday and weekend breakfast buffet as well, with biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and you can even get the famous fried chicken in the AM orlandotastes.com

Good home cooking but server set water pitcher right on rim of glass to pour it. I could do without everybody else’s germs. Good vegetables, desserts. Worth a try.

Fred’s was a long awaited oasis hope for Lake Mary. It is now a standard typical buffet. My wife and I got there Saturday night at 7:45. We were told that it was a 30 minute wait. That was accurate. After our name was called on a public address system, someone quickly walked away from us to our NE corner table for two. Another person came to take and fulfill our drink order, of which was outstanding free water! She explained the menu as we were new visitors. However I knew about it from reading their web pages. I ordered the Market table for $14+, and my wife, the $12+ one trip. However, she came back with a blue plate, for which we refused. When we asked about the $5 discount text message that we each received, we were told to wait at the table for a manager to come. After a while she came back to say, that the manager said, that when we go to the cashier, they will take care of it.Although very attentive, most of the staff had a phony and insincere friendly attitude, except when they forgot, or were distracted from their lines or parts. I love a slow cooked, tender pot roast, with well cooked, soft vegetables. Their slogan on the side of the building is Slow Food Fast. What I was looking forward to, turned out to be a large pot of watery brown gravy with some threads and a few tiny bits of pot roast. A staff member implored me, to take as much as I can, as that is all that is left for the day. My wife found the shrimp Creole, to be a large pot of crushed tomato sauce. A staff member instead brought each of us a bowl of the same sauce, but with five very tiny baby shrimp in each bowl. I told the server that I had no interest in any seafood. She then said that my wife will then have a tremendous amount. I instead got up to get some pieces of fried chicken to make up for the lack of meat. The tiny pieces ended up being mostly bones and fried batter. My wife went back to the buffet to find some large Square hard cubes of beef for me along with some carrots. The cubes where hard to cut, and tough to chew, and the carrots were hard, and hardly cooked. The corn bread was tasteless.Four staff members, including a sweeper, walked by a fallen paper placemat. I had asked the desert dispenser for a brownie with a scoop of butter pecan ice cream. He used an ice cream scooper to get me a scoop of what turned out to be chocolate cake, and then a scoop of ice cream. Although I prefer my brownies to be a thick dense square, it was still yummy, as well as the banana pudding. He served them to me while looking at and talking to an Associate, about what a long hard day it was. Only a small curled piece of paper was left on the table with our combined total. We brought that up to the cashier, with our smartphones and text messages. We were then first told that only one $5 discount was allowed per check, and that we would know better for next time, to get separate checks. After he said to come again, I asked him if I could have a receipt, and then if it included the tip that I added. It continues to amaze me of what mediocrity the diners here rave about. I have promoted the frequent delayed opening of this restaurant throughout the entire summer through Lake Mary Facebook community page, of which I am Administrator. I also opened up a separate Fred’s Kitchen page that attracted 65 likes in the first few days. I complied with their request to delete that page. They preferred their own one and only one page to represent all of their locations. The only improvement that I have noticed on the interior renovation of the former Romano’s Macaroni Grill, was a string of construction grade light bulbs hanging from the stripped ceiling, and vinyl benches. Although I was in frequent contact with the business marketer, in private text messages, and assured that I would be the first to know of its opening, I did not find out until the following day. Two people in Lake Mary posted replys to my facebook entry about the new buffet. Then I found their broadcasted text message from the previous Labor Day. I felt a bit uncomfortable with them opening for the first day, on what is supposed to honor workers.(407) 915-6808 is their telephone in Lake Mary
