Cold beer and cheap lunches. Al’s has been around for decades, and was famous locally as the venue of the Al’s Place Band, led by owner Al Rattey, who cranked out big-band and Dixieland tunes for Mardi Gras Lake Wales, and throughout the year. Now it’s in new hands, but the music continues on occasional days, when bands fill the outdoor patio with fans. Food is basic, fish fries, hot dogs, and burgers lead the way, and the beer is cold and very cheap. It’s small (some would say cramped) but can be a lot of fun. Don’t expect gourmet, but you can leave the credit card at home, and fill up for the few bills in your pocket.
